Rep. Giffords of Arizona shot

You're right. It is pure comedy.

Are you suggesting a law enforcement officer should not look at politics as motive for an assassination attempt on a US Congresswoman that left 6 people dead?

Are you really saying that? Really?

No... I think we are saying that libs are abject hypocrites for the way they are handling this. This guy was a nutjob... and most of the objective things that have been reported about his political leanings suggest he was on the left, not the right.

You guys are using this woman's blood for politcal opportunism. There is absolutely NO evidence thus far to suggest he was motivated by any of the right wingers you demonize recklessly.

Look at the news today. They are blaming Palin for this... regardless of whether he followed her or not.

The left is doing this specifically to suppress free speech that is defeating them in the marketplace of ideas and at the polls.

How is a sheriff who has received multiple violent threats, who has seen these violent threats executed in the most horrific way wrong?

We see again who is talking out of the wrong orifice, and, unfortunately, a "kid with problems" raises a lot more questions than a ruthless, stone cold sane killer.

He's freaking wrong because it didn't apply here and professionalism dictates silence in an ongoing investigation. It's exacerbated by the fact that he knew absolutely nothing at the point he made the comments. Believing his death threat commentary and attributing to something is stupid.

A kid with problems is light years from attributing a rampage to political vitriol, which is patently retarded.

So basically he profiled.

surprise, surprise...

This seemed to have started when this nut got offended at a Giffords rally. He asked her something about knowing what words meant and she responded in spanish to brush him off. She obviously didn't know how much of a nutjob he was...

His registration was necessarily after that due to his age.

Now you're flat out making things up. At no point have I ever posted that any motive should be "ruled out". For the 80th time . . . all I said is that it's unconscionable for someone involved in the investigation to assign political motives and comment on them before the assailant has even spoken to the police.

But that's not what the good sheriff did at all. He did not mention politics once. Not one single time.

Your assumptions have revealed your agenda, I'm afraid. It's alright though. There is an 800 lbs gorilla in the room that's difficult to ignore. :hi:

Really. You're really trying hard to pass off your and his commentary as apolitical and it's absurd. Find another approach - maybe wax philosophical about Rand or toss about neoliberal like you know something, but try a new tack.

Evidently not.

Are you suggesting the sheriff of Pima County should NOT act on death threats against the public?

This is REALLY descending into comedy.... very sad comedy.

He damn sure shouldn't overplay them for political purposes.

'Dupnik told the news media Saturday that he blamed "the vitriolic rhetoric that we hear day in and day out from people in the radio business and some people in the TV business."

"The bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," he said. "And unfortunately, Arizona, I think, has become sort of the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

How do you know it didn't apply in this case, btw?

Moreover, the sheriff's comments were actually describing a general atmosphere in AZ. The comments actually read like any copper at the scene of a homicide who says in disgust, "What is wrong with this country? There is so much hate, violence, and bigotry...." He said it in a press conference because he's the Sheriff, and not Lieutenant Chris Noth.

You actually really have to make some big assumptions to even link his comments to the shooter.

But it's alright you did. There is an 800lbs gorilla in the parlor. If this kid is mentally ill, it only raises more questions.

clearly he's complaining about air america.

He's not overplaying them.

Would you say the same about the victim's father and husband? They've said similar things.

If the man's acts had NOTHING to do with Palin, Beck, or the TP then it IS overplaying them to blame those people.

A terrorist order was sent over the internet today... I blame you.

Did I overplay your involvement at all?

The real issue here is people's need to predetermine motive so that they can find order in something that likely has no order.

See post #514.

And thanks for providing such quick and thorough support to my points in said post. :hi:

Couple that with his comments and action toward the AZ Immigration Law and you have a 800 lb. gorilla in the sheriff's office.

And sadly... these acts had more to do with Giffords dissing that young nut a few years ago than with the people implied in this quote. That's a shame that in a moment of grief the man struck out at people he hated instead of those truly to blame.
