Rep. Giffords of Arizona shot

After slashing millions of jobs, many corporations are posting record profits. But, they and their managers are sitting on that money, pumping up stock prices and their own bonuses as a result, but not re-hiring layoffs or hiring new workers.

This makes no sense at all and the record profits angle is bunk. First, sitting on cash is expensive for corporations and investors kill them for inefficient use of capital, hence killing stocks. If investors sense that the company has no better alternative than cash hording, they'll demand the cash out or demand that the company invest it at their hurdle rates.

As to the rehiring, why on earth would a company do that if they are making good money with the current staffing and can fill needs going forward? Hiring for the sake of hiring is what gets managers fired, no questions asked. Hiring is a function of demand, not the greater economy and you'd do well to understand that it's a company decision in light of needs. Now, it's a company decision and also impounds pricing in different labor markets. For the faint of heart, ours is the most insanely overpriced labor market on earth. Until that changes, folks who can will go elsewhere.

If you want to see an epic global economic meltdown, do that.

I don't think so. I am not opposed to "fair" trade. I am opposed to watching America's industrial base "meltdown" before our very eyes.

We need a massive, common sense reform of our regulations. I am not sure exactly how you make it happen... but I AM SURE that those currently in America's dependent class would be better off working... even at a humble job. I am also sure the country would be better off if they were. We NEED those low skill assembly jobs, textile jobs, packing jobs, etc...

If you resurrect those industries... the wealth generated will spawn more economic expansion and demand for labor. The best thing for employees is not the minimum wage, 2-3 years unemployment, food stamps, education help, etc... the best thing for employees is a labor shortage.

The jobs I mentioned left for many reasons. Most can be fixed without causing any sort of global economic meltdown.

Yes. Or at least inefficient. What we are seeing now in unemployment is not JUST a function of economic slowdown. Its also, I believe, a function of technology replacing the need for a lot of employees. Now that they are gone, employers are figuring out how to do more with less people, more tech and computer-driven solutions.

Which is one reason why service in this country blows.

to the extent that service is an issue and getting it right is worth money, folks figure out how to provide it or suffer, or leave room for a third party willing to provide said service to take charge.

American Thinker: Guilty as Hell, Free as a Bird (for now)

On February 16, 1970, someone planted a bomb
at San Francisco's Park Police Station. It was
placed in a window of the business office and
timed to explode at shift change, when the
maximum number of officers would be there,
either finishing up or starting their work.

It was a powerful blast, throwing one officer in
the station parking lot completely over his patrol
car and sending shrapnel for over two city blocks.
The bomb fortunately detonated a few minutes
early so the destruction was less than it might
have been. Still, nine were wounded, one --
Officer Robert Fogarty -- badly enough that he
retired from the force on disability, and one,
Sergeant Brian McDonnell, 45 year old married
father of two, was killed.

On Thursday, March 12, 2009, Cliff Kincaid of
America's Survival Inc. held a press conference
at the National Press Club, launching the Campaign
for Justice for Victims of Weather Underground
Terrorism, to focus public attention on evidence
that may finally bring the alleged perpetrators to
justice: Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.
-------------------------------

There are irrefutable and compelling reasons
to believe that Bill Ayers and his wife Bernardine
Dohrn, members of the terrorist group 'Weather
Underground', are largely responsible for the
bombing of Park Police Station and other police
stations throughout the United States during
their 'tour of terror' in the late 1960s and early
1970s.

----------------------------

In addition to the outrageous pardons of fugitive
criminal Marc Rich and 16 FALN terrorists, Holder
provided key assistance to two Weather Underground
members implicated in the Brinks Robbery murders,
pardoning them quietly along with Rich -- who of
course got all the headlines.

Given the Attorney General's apparent sympathy
for terrorists, and Bill Ayers' perceived status as
President Obama's friend and mentor, the Justice
Department may be reluctant to provide all of the
evidence in the Park Station bombing case unless
they are forced to do so.

We can't be industrial at our pricing. Simply can't.

I know what you are saying... but we CAN if we stop paying people to do nothing or do less than they can. The policies of the left pertaining to this are making our labor too high. You can't keep taxing and regulating businesses out of existence while turning around and raising taxes even more to support those who are then unemployed... and in some cases unemployable.

That's been a point I have tried to make here for awhile now. We cannot afford to pay people just so they can consume. EVERYONE who is able must contribute to the nation's wealth.

If I remember correctly, something between 5-10% of able bodied, able minded, pre-retirement Americans are considered "unemployable". By some measure or another, their costs are factored into our labor price.

I will get blasted for saying this but we also cannot continue to pay so many able bodied retired people going forward. Our age demographics won't allow it.

The fair price for those simple jobs is below what those Americans will accept. That's WHY they're leaving. If they have little skills, why should they be paid more simply because of their nationality than people with little skills in other places?

The reality is that those lower workers are not competitive in the global market place. That isn't going to change by protective measures. They're going to have to retool or change their expectations.

They don't have to change anything as long as we'll go along with the whining about income disparity and listen to the happiness indices in deciding how to best allocate our money. Soon, all of those folks will get they cash and our national happiness index will go through the roof.

They don't look the same! Hence the PS.

Yeah... I... yeah. My bad. I never watch Beck, so what I remembered of what I saw was the photo. I google'd a picture of him and, although there are some similarities, it's obviously not him. I'll go back to posting something and walking away... :birgits_giggle:

All white people look the same to you? Racist.

From looking at what the nut job posted and from reading this thread, I'm worried about utgibbs and the fish fellow. Their rantings aren't very different than his! Anybody that knows them, check on them and make sure their ok! Seriously.

Fish fellow?

How exactly were loughlers issues missed? It seems from all I have read plenty of people voiced concern but were hamstrung to do anything about it.

Nothing missed. Our policy of inclusion at all costs has come home to roost. Don't dare single anyone out or insinuate that people might not be the norm.

Short of a clinical diagnosis, what can be done?

It is unfortunate, but just saying someone is unhinged isn't enough to cause law enforcement to pick them up and take them in for an examination.

Though I'm wondering if maybe there should be, although that could create a witch hunt, for sure.
