Paul Krugman is trying to do just that.

A Democratic Congresswoman has been shot in the head; another dozen were also shot.

We don’t have proof yet that this was political, but the odds are that it was. She’s been the target of violence before. And for those wondering why a Blue Dog Democrat, the kind Republicans might be able to work with, might be a target, the answer is that she’s a Democrat who survived what was otherwise a GOP sweep in Arizona, precisely because the Republicans nominated a Tea Party activist. (Her father says that “the whole Tea Party” was her enemy.) And yes, she was on Sarah Palin’s infamous “crosshairs” list.

Just yesterday, Ezra Klein remarked that opposition to health reform was getting scary. Actually, it’s been scary for quite a while, in a way that already reminded many of us of the climate that preceded the Oklahoma City bombing.

You know that Republicans will yell about the evils of partisanship whenever anyone tries to make a connection between the rhetoric of Beck, Limbaugh, etc. and the violence I fear we’re going to see in the months and years ahead. But violent acts are what happen when you create a climate of hate. And it’s long past time for the GOP’s leaders to take a stand against the hate-mongers

I have served 18+ yrs in the military. My job is to defefend the constitution fool. Hug your trees in mamby pamby land. I have no use for your kind in the real world. Its a place where you claim to be but will never find. What are you 17-22?

You just advocated someone being denied their constitutional rights, fool. Thanks for your service, but you seem to be confused as to what the constitution guarantees.

No. Truth of the matter is that there have been reports of him being Tea Party, a Communist, an Anarchist, a registered Democrat, etc. Whatever he is, I think we all can agree that he isn't right in the head.

Not a time for speculation. The facts will be known in time. We have an opportunity here for the country to come together. Not directed at you pj, but I would hope that people will not politicize this whatever his beliefs.

And if this clown was shot dead on the scene, would you want his shooter brought to justice? Silly question.

He had a death wish. It wasnt fulfilled. He wanted to die. He wanted the cops to blow him away and be famous. Hence his send off video on youtube.

no because that would be justifiable (but would be investigated anyway). Once he's in custody it all changes since in the US we have rights that you claim to be aware of

If the person who made the kill on the scene made it legally, what kind of justice should one expect them to be brought to?

I agree with IP on this one, no reason to make accidents happen just because the guy is insane/a POS/whatever. There is a constitutionally guranteed process, no reason to circumvent it, IMO.

Honest question about Krugman's comments here:

Does he not see how hate filled his rant about hate is? Does he not see how divisive it is and how it is every bit as much a call to arms it is like the rhetoric he is condemning? Is he naive to what he is really saying in that rant?

On the shooting - it is a tragic event. Simply tragic. I agree with RJD - politicizing this at this time is tragic as well.

If he was shot on the scene when no longer posing a threat (cuffed or laying face down on the ground with his hands empty and outstretched, etc.), I would. Otherwise, no.

Why give him the fame and notoriety he craved? Why not just treat him like any other piece of trash?
