That is where you and I differ. No such thing as hopelessness if you are willing to work your ass off.

i agree. I worked two jobs and put myself through grad school full time, i never once asked for government help, Our country WAS builit on the blood sweat and tears of its citizens. You can fit a thousand cliches for this subject. The best way government can help its maladjusted citizens is to dump the welfare system, take that money pour it into education. Give someone a fish, they eat dinner, teach them to fish they eat for life... (see what i mean about the cliches)

Actually, GASOUTHERN, you do have a point about education here. But we can't just throw money at the problem.

Believe me, nobody, especially no man that I know that's worth his salt, wants to be on welfare. To know that you can't do things by yourself is depressing to say the least. But, without the welfare, most of those people are living in a refrigerator box downtown.
you haven't been around section 8 housing.

I don't think anyone has a problem with those that use welfare to get back on their feet. The problem is that many make it their sole income by choice because they are lazy and want something for nothing.

And those are the people I have a problem with.

Who's pretending here. I know that there are a ton of people that just want to take advantage of the system.

That's where I got the idea that you don't believe they're out there.

Do you people that say stuff like this know how welfare works. You can only be on welfare a total of about three years before you are cut off forever. While you are on welfare if you are not disabled you have to work to get benefits if you go three months without a job you get cut off. You cant just live on welfare for ten years.

I see. I'm talking about real men here, not lazy punks who just smooch off the government for all their lives.
fair enough, but don't think for a second that the potential embarrassment of mooching of the gov't is enough of an encouragement for the masses currently mooching.
