"President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday granting a full pardon to Edward DeBartolo Jr., the former owner of the San Francisco 49ers who pleaded guilty to a felony charge for his involvement in a gambling fraud case in Louisiana in the late 1990s, according to White House spokesman Hogan Gidley.
DeBartolo was suspended from the NFL in 1997 and fined $1 million over an extortion case involving then-Louisiana Gov. Edwin W. Edwards. As the star witness, DeBartolo testified that he paid Edwards $400,000 in exchange for his help in securing a riverboat casino license. Edwards was convicted of on racketeering, conspiracy and extortion charges in 2000.
DeBartolo eventually ceded control of the 49ers to his sister, but was still inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016 for presiding over a team that earned five Super Bowl trophies during the 1980s and ‘90s."
Must be cool to be able to buy "justice", huh? Hurrah for America!
Yes. with my limited knowledge of this (first I've heard of him), he should still be in jail.Oscar Lopez Rivera
Of all the people Obama pardoned which ones do you have a problem with?
Jobbed how? Can you share the story?
I agree that DAs sometimes pad their stats with stupid plea deals. Sounds like the biggest issues your guy had though was being in the wrong in first place and then trying to keep from his parents? Not smart. In Tennessee for it to be a felony assault he had to have used a weapon during the fight or injured the guy enough to cause death or serious bodily injury. That’s a pretty drastic thingSure, guy was 19 maybe 20 and got into a fight at a party. Couple days later other guy goes down something in his head from the fight but lives. My employee is arrested and charged with attempted murder, long story short he didn’t have the money for an attorney, didn’t want to lose his job or have his parents find out so when they offered him a deal of felony assault (can’t remember exactly) with no jail time he took it. Everything I heard about the fight was it was a fair fight two big boys and they both gave as good as they got so it was BS for either one to be charged.
That’s the SOP for the DAs office in Sumner County, overcharge those that can’t afford decent representation and threaten them with long jail terms then come back and offer a plea for a felony and no jail time. It‘s criminal how they work so they can pump up their conviction rates and get reelected by the idiots that think that’s an indicator of a DA doing a good job.
