Richmond is taking down Confederate statues: Is this the end for other Confederate memorials?

To ve consistent, the ww1 ww2 should be gone. You communists will not be satisfied. Talking about being useful idiots. Are you only going to keep the union monuments up?

“Consistent” because in the World Wars we also fought to uphold slavery?

This is a guy using “communist” to describe those who see confederate statues as backwards. I wouldn’t expect a reasonable answer to this question.

Trump tweeted that he "will not even consider" renaming military bases named after Confederate leaders. I'll leave that for others to argue about, but I'm curious as to process on this. Who gets the final call to rename (or not rename) said bases?

Don’t know the answer to your question, but those bases are for sure getting renamed. The days of Confederate idolatry are numbered, no matter how long Trump holds out

Not far off of happy’s “we should honor all history because it’s history” a few posts ago

Changing the name of something doesn't change the thing itself. It wouldn't make it less of a military base or change who trained there. I guess Trump didn't get that line about roses in Romeo and Juliet.

“We should keep things the way they are because that’s how they are” is just a terrible argument in general, and it’s just about the only argument in favor of Confederate statues/base names

It is an interesting question I haven't seen much about. With the bases being federal property and all, I suspect the local or state governments probably wouldn't get a say.
