Wesley Norris, one of the slaves who was whipped, recalled that “not satisfied with simply lacerating our naked flesh, Gen. Lee then ordered the overseer to thoroughly wash our backs with brine, which was done.”
I would be willing to bet there are even worse stories than that about what happened to slaves. Definitely one of the lowest points in humanity’s existence.
So why celebrate states that took up arms, in part to preserve their right to protect slavery.
Another point lost in this debate is when was the statue erected? Right after the civil war and you have a little bit of ground to stand on but 20 or 30 years later. No way, just a show of force and romanticizing the civil war.
Taking the statues down means nothing to me other than the fact it just shows how mentally weak a portion of Americans have become. Something offends you? Cancel it. It’s mainstream society these days.
The same could be said of those who put many of the statues up in the first place. Mentally weak, trying to cancel the forward movement of time
In the early 1900s American South: Don't like them uppity [African Americans] moving into town or trying to get involved? Put up a statue of a Confederate to run them off or remind them who's in charge.
You are underestimating the federalists and the compromise of the Constitution. The states already tried to be free and independent. That experiment known as the articles of confederation failed.
The preamble, federalism and the bill of rights establish that states do have up absolute sovereignty. The states most certainly gave up certain powers when signing the constitution.
I would rather leave the slavery issue out of the discussion but since you opened the door.
Slavery is just the vehicle to prove the states no longer had absolute sovereignty. Slavery violates the Constitution. The south was willing to take over federal war supplies and leave the union over their perceived right to decide the slavery issue.
Once the south leaves the union then Lincoln could do whatever the hell he wanted to with the southern states. They left, became another nation, and were no longer afforded any Constitutional protection. He attacked after the states left not before.
Wouldn't that go both ways? Leave 'em up and you're coddling someone's "fragile sense of reality". Take 'em down and you're coddling someone else's "fragile sense of reality".And the need to coddle your fragile sense of reality is duly noted.
Slavery was Constitutional up until the passage of the 13th Amendment. You are underestimating the federalists and the compromise of the Constitution. The states already tried to be free and independent. That experiment known as the articles of confederation failed.

The irony is you're going to need to specify which side you're referencing. Both love to act like whiny victimsHaHa! A memorial for the perpetual special needs victim class.

And lastly, to quote our current POTUS, “I don’t like losers.”
There is absolutely no doubt that Trump isn't our president. No way would he allow any of this crap to happen! Not tryna hurt your feelings, but word around the water cooler is, ahem, with all due respect, that you're a loser. Prolly not true at all. If you think Donald Trump is our current President, then scratch all that. Would definitely make you a loser, big time.
