Rick Barnes discussion [merged]

Honestly Barnes isn't going anywhere. He drives me nuts with his motion offense but you don't coach for 40 years if you don't know how to coach. Team needed a big and a true pg. Not many teams succeed without one and this team had neither.

To say he just stands there is dumb. He is trying. I don’t like this year’s results, either, but your statement is dumb.

And, yes, the player and team development was abysmal this season. It would be nice to know why because there can be a lot of reasons for that.

Check out my other posts. This has been Barnes worst coaching job since he got here.
He has shown clear player development other years. So is it this weird year, is it that an assistant left who did most of that development, is it something else, who knows? I believe he has earned more time to prove he can or can’t do better.

The only thing worse than being bounced in the first round is being associated with some of you "fans." I love this team, but having to be lumped in with you blow hards that want to blow out every coach that doesn't win a natty sucks. News flash. Barnes is good for us. Tennessee is a dumpster fire in athletics because the fans are obnoxious and no one wants to come here because of that. You all should look at what you are doing to this university you allegedly love and just shove it.
Barnes is not good for TN. Being a good person does not mean you are a good coach. At this point in his career he is an over paid rip off artist just stealing money from Tennessee.

Jerry Green, Cuonzo Martin, and Tyndall probably would have been if he’d lasted longer than a year. Barnes is good in the regular season but college basketball is all about what you can do in the tournament. I mean I’m sure Fulmer would have made a terrible hire anyway but Barnes just isn’t going to get us over the hump imo.
Wow. Again, thanks.

You think this nonsense is true, the fans are keeping this from being a great program? What on earth do you have as evidence this is true? The administration, coaches and players are 100% the reason for whatever a direction the program goes.

Yep, these "fans" are a football school that in normal years are Top 5 attendance in basketball.

Um....wut.

Ya. Barnes has to go. I'm fine with Barnes in the reg season and his ability to get us to the postseason. He is abysmal in tournaments. If you want to win big, he is not the answer unfortunately. His offense is horrible. That 2019 team made him look good like Dobbs made Butch look.
But he made that team. Grant wasn’t a great player the second he stepped on the floor. Bone sure wasn’t and neither was Admiral. He got those guys playing to a level that all 3 were drafted. That’s a little different than Butch who was holding talent back (Kamara, for example).

I really don't think that Barnes has ever embraced a 3 point offense....he is a 2 fer guy and will always be one...He has never adjusted his offense to support the 3 point shot and does not work it...The reason we had good 3 point shooters in the past was because of natural talent and not because of coaching...he is a bang it inside with the three as a secondary choice...dinosaur coaching....
Now that is actually constructive criticism rather than just “fire him”. I agree he doesn’t seem to be adapting to the game. It’s 3s and dunks now. He better adapt quickly or he will be out.

"not a good coach"

To make that kind of assessment you need to consider the many many coaches who fail. In reality, Barnes is a decent coach. He's not great, he's not bad. He's good enough. Seasons like this are why he was fired at Texas. But if this is as bad as it gets, then it doesn't make him a bad coach.

It got worse at Texas. That’s why they fired him.
