Rick Barnes discussion [merged]

But can we? That’s the question. To me, you can’t make a move unless you’re pretty darn sure you’re upgrading. I doubt the admin will pay more than what Barnes is making. So who can we get for his money or less that’s a definite upgrade?
There are a ton of coaches that can coach better than CRB out there that are making $2-$3M a year. All Barnes has is a name because he has been coaching for so long. He’s really never accomplished anything and is stubborn and unwilling to change. Bevause of that, he is past his time. If he stays, he ne to revamp this roster and use the transfer portal to get a big and a shooting guard. He could have had Mac McClung and the Bruner kid from Bama and didnt Want either of them. This would have easily been an Elite 8 team or better with those 2 players. His roster management has been a complete failure.

It is completely appropriate to complain and whinge about Barnes and the performance today, but be honest with yourselves. Barnes isn't the problem.

This UT team is a TERRIBLE shooting team. This has been evident all season long. We all knew that if they had one of those cold-shooting starts, this team was a one-and-done.

A coach can scheme, motivate, teach technique, etc., but a coach cannot make a player into a natural shooter. Those exist already or evolve over time. This current UT squad has zero natural shooters. And every good team must have at least one, and the great teams have several.

Springer has potential, Keon Johnson may develop into one, but across the board, this was a physically-gifted, spirited team composed of athletes with limited raw offensive skills.

The only thing worse than being bounced in the first round is being associated with some of you "fans." I love this team, but having to be lumped in with you blow hards that want to blow out every coach that doesn't win a natty sucks. News flash. Barnes is good for us. Tennessee is a dumpster fire in athletics because the fans are obnoxious and no one wants to come here because of that. You all should look at what you are doing to this university you allegedly love and just shove it.

Stick with low level expectations at ETSU. Coaches with the facilities we have and the salary they earn rightly have expectations. Those deservedly are met with unhappiness when the failure is spectacular as it was today.

Wait a minute...I thought that we thought this was an elite 8 team without those 2 players?
GBO!!

And who built the roster for this terrible shooting team?

Lmao. We blew Martin out too. After a sweet 16 run because you "fans".

40 years experience and 6 years here you'd think he had an eye for shooters by now. So who owns that?

If by blew out you mean he turned down a 500k a year raise and extension while getting out of town because he'd lost all the talent on the roster, then sure. He did the same thing at Missouri State to come here and then did it to Cal. It never ends well anywhere for Martin.

Give me a break. Let’s fire Barnes and hire someone with no head coaching experience. Now at least I know not to take your arguments seriously. Thanks for that.
Deion Sanders is doing it. It has got to be a former player that understands what it means to play for the program. Look at Penny and Juwan Howard...that is what we need to emulate.

Honestly Barnes isn't going anywhere. He drives me nuts with his motion offense but you don't coach for 40 years if you don't know how to coach. Team needed a big and a true pg. Not many teams succeed without one and this team had neither.
Agree. Barnes and his staff need to really focus on making some offensive tweaks over the offseason. Motion is pointless if you don't have or create space.

He seems to be in favor of filling his roster with length and athletes who can defend to the exclusion of finding guys who can actually put the ball in the bucket. You can have both. Look at Bama. Great shooting team and defenders. Just so very tired of these projects Barnes keeps bringing in. Clear out the dead wood on this roster and surround Chandler with kids who can play. Don't waste his one year here like he did with Springer and Keon.
