Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

Agreed but it's still all about coaching. Are you trying to say these last few games weren't his fault? Come on.
I mean Barnes can't make shots go in. Sure he could change the lineup some and make changes to play calls, but we've missed a ton of wide open looks, and free throws. It's a 31 game season and it just happens. This team isn't supremely talented but it plays hard.

Isn't he the coach? Why isn't it his fault?
I guess he has to remind the guys to set their alarm clocks for class each morning, too. Where does the obvious end? If you have a chance to make it a two possession game with under 10 seconds to play, that is always the move. A coach shouldn't have to explain that fundamental idea to a D1 player, especially when the play was drawn up to get Phillips a free run at the basket. Don't overthink it.

So much delusion and stupid in here. TN’s history is winning 61% of their games. Barnes is winning 66% and about 73% if you throw out the first two seasons with the dumpster fire still blazing. This season it’s 79% and in the top 10 every week since November. Even if TN falls out of the top 10, it is still one of only a couple of seasons EVER of being ranked every week.

Believe it or not, the SEC is loaded with big budget programs. And TN is currently near the top of the standings.

Barnes hadn’t lost to Vandy for almost 6 years. 11 in a row ties an all time series record. But somebody else is going to take over and do better? Not going to happen.

TN has a losing record at Vandy. Bruce was #1 in the country and lost there.

Maybe Barnes retires sooner rather than later. I dont get some fans infatuation with a coach who pulled the UCLA stunt causing UT to grossly overpay for a coach who has next to zero chance of pulling a Final 4, but he loves UT they say.
Every coach we’ve ever had would’ve left for UCLA if they had the chance. You don’t pass up a blue blood

The “UCLA Stunt”? 🤣 To put this in football terms for you - Barnes turned down Alabama to stay at North Carolina. How can people be mad about this?

Wait until they find out that vandy has more elite 8s than us and has been to a final four…

If there's no blame on Barnes for losses, there's no credit for wins. But the reality is, he has blame here and credit for wins too.

I've been behind benches before for games at every level. Most coaches do tell players to take shots or not, in the huddle. No idea if Barnes told JP there or not during the time out. You can think he shouldn't have to and that may be true. But you still say it regardless.

The fact that the game came down to that is also on Barnes and the players both too. We all well know, for good and for ill, coaching makes a massive difference.

My biggest concern with coaching is the players who aren't improving or are going backwards as we progress through the year and their career. You shouldn't be getting worse in February.

Be like turning down Nebraska for North Carolina. UCLA is a has been program that has a good team from time to time. Bad analogy.

Seems like all of the mediocre SEC teams have Final Fours. USC. GA. MSU. Barn.

Texas A&M doesn’t even have an Elite Eight. Neither does Ole Miss AND they only have one Sweet 16 (2001).
The worst part about the mediocre list is, for the better part of the conferences history, those teams have been bottom feeders in the league. Mediocre is being kind and even they have caught lightning in a bottle once. Just adds insult to our injury.

I really hope that Bama gets eliminated. At least we have some decent company.

Final Fours:
KY
UF
LSU
Ark
USC
GA
MSU
Barn
========
Missouri: 5x EEs
Tennessee: 1x EE
Mississippi: 1x SS
Texas A&M: 6x SS (zero EEs)
Vandy: 1x EE
Bama:1x EE

This team has Rick Barnes Texas teams written all over it. Go back and look at how many February collapses he had at Texas. Not to mention the typical March failure.
