Agree. we could do ALOT WORSE than Barnes.

IMO, we need to hold onto Barnes unless we just start having NIT or worse seasons. He has us in the mix despite our glaring flaws with his teams. That is better than what most coaches can do for our program. Part of the reason we have such high expectations is Barnes coaching/recruiting.

its not even his record or lack of success in the tournament that bothers me. The way he builds teams and style of play is the issue. Scoring is always secondary for him, which lowers the floor of every team he coaches.

Don’t you mean lowers the ceiling? If you are elite on defense, you’re gonna have a pretty high floor every year, hence why we always make the tourney as a high seed.

I posted this on the UK thread but this sums up issues about this team:

IMO, this team was overrated from day 1 and frankly has overachieved at times this season to give them a higher ranking than they really have. We are really more in line with a 18-25 ranking than a top 10 team. We don't have a solid Center although Aidoo is coming along. Look at our roster, no true center. We also don't have a "go to" shoot. Vescovi and Zeigler are the two most likely "go to" shooters but they don't consistently hit shots enough to be on the level of let's say a Chris Lofton or Jajuan Smith where you can truly depend on them game-by-game.

We often just look lost on offense unfortunately.

Firing Barnes would be ludicrous and frankly our Admin knows this. Barnes isn't going anywhere unless our program just plummets and has records like LSU or South Carolina have right now.

Cal has showed us who’s the Daddy this year is between he & Barnes. Completely outcoached him in Knox & thus far again today.

One year doesn’t make a record. He’s been the best coach against Cal not just at UT bit quite possibly for Cal’s career.

This is all on Barnes, this is his baby that he created and I like Barnes but this is all on him. He is still stuck in early 2000 basketball and the game has evolved since then. Looks like Fulmers last 4-5 years

I'd have to really look at the schedule but it feels this team has beat every top 10 matchup by double digits or with command at least, and then get embarrassed by mediocre teams. How do they get embarrassed against vandy mizzu then whip Bama with 2 guys out then are getting embarrassed again at Rupp? Home court doesn't help THAT much.

Barnes is a solid Coach. I'm sure he's a good guy, but he's only good for a 2nd round run. He's proved it time in and time out. Not shocked about scoring, it's been a Barnes issue for years.
