Agree with the fire Barnes talk is totally stupid but I will say that the loss today was alarming. Granted, I didn't have high expectations with this team in March all along. If you don't get hyped up, you don't get disappointed.

I mentioned this in the game thread and I’m truly starting to think he’s running the players into the ground at times. Ron Slay was courtside for an hour yesterday during a practice we held and he said it was full on game mode. Aggressive defensive and all for almost two hours and Knecht only missed one shot the entire time. Said they looked dialed in yesterday while he was there. Our mojo must’ve been let loose in that practice.

I can see that. Over practicing could be the problem.

Yeah, this team plays with heart but they seem exhausted/drained at times. That seems to be what is getting them. I think the team, coaches, etc. may just be trying to hard. I have been in that spot when I tried to play when I was a lot longer (no where near their level but I have the experience). We need to play loose.

I've always wonder about that. Why we seem to decelerate in March, as if there's little stamina left in sight of the finish line. If you're going full bore the day before - well that doesn't make sense this late in the season.

I don’t think today was “typical March Barnes” as some are suggesting. Barnes has fared very well in the SEC Tournament historically. This is the first time since the championship game back in 2019 where his team looked unprepared to play in this tournament.

With that being said, I have zero confidence going into the NCAA Tournament that we will make it out of the first weekend. Santi and JJJ aren’t doing enough from a scoring perspective which puts it all on ZZ, Knecht, and to an extent Aidoo.

The way things played out, it would have taken one of those special 30+ point games from DK for us to have had a shot to win this game and it just wasn’t his day. That’s been the narrative surrounding this team and today adds a lot of credibility to that narrative. Playing against a team that will probably be about a 10 seed, we couldn’t even be competitive without DK being spectacular.

Maybe it’s just the immediate bad vibes that come with a loss like this, but I would be floored if this bunch reaches the Sweet Sixteen. Hope I’m wrong, but we just seem really vulnerable the way these last two games have gone.

SEC Champs Rick. Sweet 16 Rick. Enjoy what you have. He is a great coach. He will be gone soon enough and what Tennessee gets won’t be as good as what we have now. Tennessee can then go back to just hoping they get in the NCAA tournament like we did before Barnes. Season ain’t over.

My friend (big WVU basketball fan but likes the Vols to do well) reached out during game and said he couldn’t even recognize this team. I reminded him that this is March and this is how we play in March. Every single year. Not expecting much in the tournament.
