Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

I am frustrated too but most the SEC hasn't made it past the Sweet 16 in the past 15 years. The only ones that I can think of at the moment that have gone further are Auburn (1x), South Carolina (1x), Florida (although it has been awhile), Kentucky (been awhile for them as well), and Arkansas.

How many SEC schools are paying their coach $5+ million a year?

We won two games last year? You’re bragging about that? That should be the normal!! Damn bro, what seed was we? Was we favored in those games?

Only 16 teams did it ever year.

Regarding Seeds, we were a 4 seed so we were EXPECTED to lose in the Sweet 16 per our seed. We beat vaunted Duke to get there.

We don’t know how this team will perform in the NCAA. But from history, we do know that they will lose to a team they shouldn’t lose to. This is who we are.

So here are the facts about Rick Barnes in Tournament:

2017/2018 #3 seed, lost to Loyola in Second Round off a last minute 3 pointer. Loyola went on to Final Four
2018/2019 #2 seed, lost #3 seed Purdue in overtime (This is the roughest loss, in my opinion, as I thought this team was the real deal)

2020/2021 #5 seed, lost to #12 seed Oregon State BAD. No excuse here
2021/2022 #3 seed, lost to #11 Michigan in the 2nd round, no excuses here
2022/2023 #4 seed, lost to #9 Florida Atlantic (who went to Final Four)

There is one consistency with all the teams except the 2022/2023 team (last year), they all fell ONE GAME short of the seed. The 2022/2023 lived up to their seed.

Going off that results, we are a Sweet 16 or Elite 8 team (more likely Sweet 16 finish).

To me, the 2018/2019 and the 2021/2022 teams bothered me the most as I bought into those teams and thought they were good enough to make runs.

We also have a knack for running into and losing to Cinderellas (Loyola and Florida Atlantic; even Oregon State and Michigan went on runs).

Such a poor excuse for a fan, I’ve been to an absurd amount of games across all sports. The facts are Barnes In March is a joke. He’s incredible in regular season. This has been a trend his entire career. I like Barnes, but he won’t ever win in March.
He won the SEC tournament just 2 years ago. Forget the booze at happy hour, tank up on pints of STFU

How any self righteous Tenn can come into this thread and lambast one of the best coaches in our history over a sec tournament game after already winning the conference and winning the tournament last year is beyond me, but you continue on with your bad takes

We didn't win the SECT last year.

We have also found excruciating ways to lose a lot of these games:

Ohio State comeback
Michigan State flop (sure that was elite 8 but rough)
Michigan lost when we had the run with Cuonzo Martin
Purdue overtime game
Florida Atlantic game
I know I keep beating this horse, and it goes back a ways, but the Sweet 16 loss to UNC after we had them on the ropes and let them off the hook (blew an 8 point lead, I think, in the last 4 minutes or so) was brutal. I still say that team (2000, I think) was the best roster top to bottom UT's ever had.

Meaningless. 3 losses to double digit seeds in the NCAA tournament and a loss to a 9 seed last year say a lot more.
You brought up March. We went to the sweet 16 last year without our PG, beating Duke's ass in the process. UT basketball is only "meaningless" to the casual fan with limited basketball knowledge
