Tennessee paid Barnes Top 5 money to stay here when he had one foot out the door...... Literally the definition of doing something that has never been done.

Struggle on though!

And many on here ranted and raved over him getting paid. Had they let him go to UCLA, then the same ones woulda screamed @ us being cheap.

Wimp didn’t take over at Bama until a couple of years after Mears left - but he was CM’s assistant. Mears retired in 1977 and Newton coached Bama through 1979-80.

We had that in 19' vs the Saint and 22' v FAU ... the skids were greased both times and we blew it. Now, I hope CRB stays a s long as he wants, but we can't complain @ not having the road paved for us.

They got 3 awesome transfers now and I think they'll be elite 8 again next year.

I think the biggest flop (if you can call it that) for Barnes in the tourney is 22 tourney..... At that point, the team adjusted on the fly to not having ZZ and we were playing tough and rowdy defense.

The man has made the NCAAT 6 of the 8 seasons he's been here that an NCAAT took place, won 2 SEC Championship (1 outright), the first SECT Championship in over 40 years, 3 Sweet 16s and only the second Elite 8 in school history. And apparently that's not good enough.

It’s good enough for some but not good enough for all…I personally have high expectations and feel it’s a disgrace we have never made a Final Four…it’s not only on Barnes but I’m on record saying he is part of it…as Bruce Pearl was and so on and so forth for every team and coach that was capable of more.

When it’s said and done Barnes will be very fondly remembered but there will always be that what if…

As I get older I do find myself contemplating why I would spend time/money if a team never gets over the hump..again that’s just me and to each their own, we are all here to discuss things…we aren’t all here to agree

Lot of truth in that…I always put an expectation on every team and if they meet or exceed it I call it a success. But in reality if you ain’t winning, you are losing.
