Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

SCOTT DREW? Lol why in the blue hell would he leave a national title winning program? You’re out of your damn mind.
He makes $3.3M at Baylor. We pay Barnes over $5M. You really should use google to research coaches salaries. Money talks

The Big 12 is about to become a Mid-Major conference. That would probably be the only angle to get Drew out of Baylor at some point.

Doesn’t matter as much in basketball. Mid majors have made title games and won titles a lot in the last 10 years.

The main way it matters is in money, facilities and NiL situations. The Big 12 and other mids will begin to feel more and more pressure from super conferences as money shifts more towards the top.

Barnes went to two SECT finals in March and has been in the last 3 NCAATs*. Devoe missed making the NCAAT field in 5 of his last 6 years. Devoe finished the season ranked in the AP Top 20 one time in 11 years.

*Full disclosure, barring a miracle SEC tourney title win in 2020, we weren't making the NCAAs that year had it not been cancelled.

Rest of statement is correct without any comments needing extra context.

You are stating that as a FACT but several teams have been invited with 19-15 records. TN had already beaten the two teams between them and that record. Plus making another SECT finals with the Saturday win would have made TN 20-15 and even more have made the field with that record. The only fact is that nobody knows.

3-11 in Q1 games, Outside of Top 60 in NET, RPI, and KenPom. It would have taken winning the SECT. Obviously, that could have happened but that team through 31 was a borderline NIT team. Granted, that was supposed to be a rebuilding year and that team played hard.

Again, you are speculating and stating it as fact. Going 3-1 in the SECT and zero chance of being invited?

I remember those who follow that stuff (Lunardi, Palm, etc.) said we needed to win the SECT after Auburn steamrolled us at home to finish regular season.

I would agree it wasn't 0.0% chance had that scenario occured but the number of teams outside a top 3 conference (SEC was 4th or 5th that season), outside the Top 50 in ALL the 3 key metrics (still would have been with a 3-1 finish), and without a crazy hot finish (like 9-1) can be counted on one hand in the history of the NCAAT.

That tournament, that entire season was pretty much a COVID Mulligan. But Barnes gets criticized for it none-the-less. TN won at Rupp that year.

That season was always going to be a rebuilding season once Bone unexpectedly left early. Barnes didn't do a bad job that year. The team struggled against good competition (3-11 in Q1 games) but on the flip side, that means the team largely handled business against everyone else.

The one issue from that year is many forwards/bigs from that team haven't developed as expected.

I’m not putting much stock into any of these COVID, N-I-L, instant transfer years anyway. Win or lose. Can’t even be certain that games will be played and even if they are somebody’s not necessarily at full strength. Cancelled games create unfair comparisons in league standings. I’d love to get games at LSU, KY, Bama, and Barn cancelled with an opportunity to play Missouri, Miss State, and Georgia twice each.

N-I-L makes the NCAA the minor leagues for the NBA and NFL. Free movement means transient, no loyalty rosters of short term, hardly students athletes.

There he is. Just one or two hundred feet off of Sutherland. Ace Hardware is about a mile away and they stock shovels.

Ray Mears (1926-2007) - Find A Grave Memorial

I went to that cemetary about 8 years ago to find a family member of a friend buried toward the rear of that huge ground. Mears is very easy to find. Unless you are blind it is almost impossible to miss. Especially the day I was there. Those flower pots were filled with some type of orange flowers that day. Very eye catching.

Edit: In fact, It was mid June 2017. Right after the tenth anniversary of his death. Makes sense now.

Well Jesus TGO, I guess the last three years just don’t count and since NIL/transfer portal is a thing moving forward I just can’t judge a coach anymore on what they do? Come on man.
