Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

Absolutely not. I don't follow much basketball outside of the Vols or the tourney. I honestly don't know. So I'm asking you. Just give me the list. Why is that so hard?

Because he can’t

The only thing Tennessee could do is land an up and coming mid major and hope for the best.

don’t get me wrong…..they could certainly get some “power” coaches……but no one near Barnes.

Choking in the NCAA see.s to be more of a Tennessee thing than coach thing. I don't see it getting better with a new coach unless we find the next John Wooden.

If you’re not a blue blood it’s almost impossible to poach a sitting Power 5 head coach. You almost always have to choose between a mid major coach, an assistant, or someone who was just fired. The exception is if you hire a guy on the hot seat who’s getting out ahead of getting fired, like what Cuonzo Martin did twice and Mike White just did.

Agree

Tennessee lucked up when they got Barnes. Not saying he’s the best coach ever…..but he’s much more of anything proven than Tennessee would normally be able to land.

If Texas hadn’t fired him, we would’ve been shopping Division 2 for a coach in the wake of the Tyndall debacle. That’s probably going to be what LSU ends up doing.

And Texas only fired him because Shaka was looking so smart.

Later they did luck up with a good coach being at an inferior instate school.

Lmaooooooooo you want to chew Barnes out??
Absolutely, players don't get fired, head coaches do. He needs his ass chewed for a longggg history of poor performance in the tourny and his showing in this one. I didn't say he needs to be fired, but the AD needs to have a conversation, cause if he keeps this up, he gone, book it.

It’s hard to be a Tennessee fan.

Barnes didn’t shoot 2-18 from 3. **** happens. I’m just glad Barnes is our coach. Bash me. I don’t give a damn. I’ve sat in TBA amongst 2000 UT fans while surrounded by 22000 UK fans at TBA.

I love every damn kid that fought their ass off for us. It can get worse? If you don’t believe me, I can tell you stories. 60-54 UT up and ZZ misses a wide open 3. Shots fall and they don’t. If that goes in, Barnes looks like a genius. But it didn’t. But **** the hell about MY DAMN COACH!!

We took 18 three's hit 2
They took 16 three's hit 6
Their 7 foot 1" guy (27 Points) hit 3 three's had hit 8 all year in 32 games. $?it like that just dont happen but it did.
Vescovi & ZZ had off games or either Michigan defended those 2 better than most any teams since Texas Tech. ZZ had good open looks on 3's not so much for Vescovi.

The worst to me was the 3 corner 3’s that ZZ and JJJ got wide open and didn’t convert. This game gave me flashbacks of Texas Tech and Texas games.

An intresting stat I heard last night after the game, from that corner where we were getting open looks TN shot under 30% on the season, everywhere else they were around 35 or higher. Those were good looks, for whatever reason though this team just didnt like that spot. Michigan gets some credit though thats a great scout and they did a good job of executing and not letting us get looks unless they were from that corner.

Yeah that is def weird. But at end of the day and especially after the last 6 weeks, I would have bet anything if you told me we'd have 3 open looks at 3 and asked me to bet on us making at least 1. Especially with ZZ and JJJ shooting.

He’s not getting fired. Some of you are silly. He’s 67 years old.

Agreed. As much grief as I've given Barnes on poor tourney performance, I have no idea how him "coaching better" would've have yielded a victory last night.

There is a term called clutch. Our players did not have it this year. Clutch is people who hit shots when it matters under pressure. Chris Lofton was clutch. How many games did we lose this year where players missed shots under pressure?

Teams don't move in March unless they have clutch players. We need these players. Don't say we cannot recruit them because teams like Saint Peters have these type players.

So where was the bad coaching? We lost because we missed open shots, 3's and bunnies. Should he have told them: 'fellers don't miss no shots tonight, aight'?
