Rick Clausen

i don't think anybody is putting all the blame on clausen. but he is alittle to blame i blame the coaching staff. i agree 100% with patrick no matter how ticked off you are you don't rip the fans that might all ready be ticked at you for not playing good. the only thing i can say good about clausen is he does what he can with no talent and that is the coaches fault for letting him play. most of his 300 yards by the way the recievers made by runs after the catch and 125 of them came with the game out of reach and georgia playing prevent.

I think he wants to win so badly that he feels bigtime let down like most all of us do. Rick is not the best QB around and we all know it. But, he isn't the worst by far, either. The problem is bigger than that.

It seemed to me that Saturday when we tried to run the ball, there was always one or two Puppies right there in Riggs' face almost as quickly as he got the ball. What's up with that? Very few holes to run through Saturday.

I know they had a good defense, but our OL is supposed to be pretty darn good too.

i'm not going to say rick clausen is the worst qb around, but in the sec he ranks toward the bottom and in arm strength he may be dead last.

He would be lucky to play for Carson Newman, so he should keep his pie hole closed.

Lexvol, you would be lucky to play on an intramural team at Carson-Newman...so maybe you should keep your pie hole closed. Dang ignorant fans!

I did play on an intramural team at Carson Newman, so stick that in your pie hole. Darn ignorant fans, and dreamers.

now there is no reason for that rickbol. some of us just have a different view that is all. i'm not going to say your view is right or wrong, but i'll agree with lexvol on this one. rick is a smart qb, but his physical talent kills him at qb. with carson newman qb being pretty athletic i'm not sure he would play there 50-50. have you seen carson newman play they are pretty enertaining.

The VOL fans have a right to their opinions and so does Clausen, so it goes both ways. Clausen needs to learn how to deal with the criticism along with the praise. That happens to a team in every sport that has a lot of fans.

You are no UT fan...you stick with your team through thick and thin....Everyone has hard times no matter who it is....For you to say some of the ignorant stuff you do, you can't be a true Vol fan

Yeah, Nebraska won 10 games for 30+ years straight, real hard times there. You can pull for your team with undying loyalty and still be able to criticize a man like Randy Sanders.

I just have to jump in again. I agree with what you said, but what does it say that the University of Tennessee Volunteers HAVE to go with such a limited QB? If he's good enough to be on that field, he has to have some merit.

I really didn't read his comments as being against Vols fans as a general group; he was PO'd at the bandwagon fans, and I am, too. Since when do you have to give up your right to an opinion just because you wear the orange? Oh, the latter here isn't directed at you, dog.

i'm not sure what happened to our qb situation volwinrlose. it sort of went down the tubes. last year it looked promising ainge the thrower, schaffer the runner and clausen on the bench if they both got hurt, of course after the notre dame game thats what happened. now schaffer gone, ainge with development problems, and clausen no talent we seem to be grasping at straws. facts are clausen looks pretty good when he's playing old miss, kentucky and vandy. the lsu game i don't give him (clausen) alot of credit for because miles played ball control conservative football and let tennessee back into the game. with all that being said with schaffer transferring and crompton hurt it seemed like we had alot of options, but now we don't. clausen is a kid that can't throw the ball over 25 yards it is hard to spread a defense when your limited it that way.

the dude is playing on sheer guts. any other club and he would be on the bench. why didnt phil not see this coming? two true sophmores at QB with a bench warmer at LSU for a starter at UT isnt going to cut it. ainge had moments to shine last year but nothing more than that. i am sure every young QB has their moments but it takes a leader and a real man to take his team to glory. i hear al wilson made peyton pee his pants before he started to act like a leader.

Everybody needs to take a shot of joe--Clausen is working with what he was given by Sanders. Where is the run support? Riggs can only head in one direction- powerful yes- but he can only cut once per run or it overloads his system. For three years, Tennessee has only had a power runner. There is NO ONE like Lewis, Henry, or Stewart on the team now. With run support, so much would not be ridding on Clausen. If Sanders does not call in the right hole for Riggs to run in, he is lost. The O-line does a great job--they just don't have a RB that can shake and move. Notice how Tenn's running game is the worst it has been since Fulmer took over.
That is why the QB's are needed so badly. Look at how long it took Fulmer to even try a run against Georgia. Alabama used the Tennessee game plan against Florida (see first play from scrimmage for both teams and comments from Bama's Def-Coord), but their RB could run and they hit their first pass. Bottom line- give Clausen a break. In the SEC, passing alone will not get you far, no matter how good your defense is.

i dont know if we can place this solely on the ainge play against ND.

as a coach, with a great team in the making, are you ready to give your team over to a kid with one year of college experience? if phil is such a great recruiter why didnt he go after juco transfer?

one word: simms. no one wants that to be your future. everyone has to grow-up but not all at once. simms could have been a great player but putting him incontrol of a team that needed a leader at that key position was a mistake.

Still missing the point. A team leader should keep his mouth shut and play football, not pop off at the fans.

How many times do I need to say this.  Jim Bob should be refered to as "The Cooter".

Here it is in a sentence.

Rick isn't doing so well, let's put in "The Cooter".

Now doesn't that sound better, Jim Bob seems to redneckish. :D

i guess a team leader and captain is supposed to ride the pine too.

the view from the field is a lot different than our view from the stands. im pissed, your pissed, clausen is pissed!!

the game was just as hard to watch as the first half of the lsu game. It was painful, heartbreaking, down right embarrassing that it was being broadcasted to millions of people.

honestly i think he was dissapointed that he let the game slip out of smith's hands and into georgia's on the next f'n play!!! field position and penalties alone made me mad enough to go kick a small dog.

The leader and team captain should lead the team down the field and score touchdowns, and he should not run his mouth out of frustration. IMO he is lucky to have this opportunity. One because of the coaches inability to prepare Ainge, and two because Fulmer took him in when it was apparent that LSU did not want him.

Unfortunately, he is not physically gifted enough to lead the Tennesee offense.

he is a crutch to a high-flying tennessee team. i agree it was a bad comment taken out of context about hypothetical fans. we should not be this upset about it.

his frustration is the same as ours times 100. dont make him out to be any less or more than he is. he is a kid trying to do what he gerw up doing. playing football and trying to win.
