Rickea Jackson Minutes

Answering my own question: 11

Mutiple championships: Auriemma, Summitt, Mulkey, VanDerveer, Staley, McGraw.

Single championships: Blair, Peck, Sharp, Frese, Hatchell.

Only those in the first group (besides Summitt, who had stepped down) have won over the last ten years, and one of them is now retired.
Just looked it up, there are 351 Head Coaches in NCAA Division 1 womens basketball. That’s a lot of competition. Three are sitting on top right now, and just like Alabama in football, get their choice of 5 star players. It is not impossible for another Coach to break into this club, but it will take time. Tara went 29 years between her second National Championship and her third. Her school backed her through all those years of close, but no Championship, and it has paid off.

Their fans didn't quit on them? Imagine that, fans who pull for their team through thick and thin. 29 years.....wow!

Jackson had a reputation, fair or not, before coming here and there was surprise at least among some posters here that Kellie would take her.
.
Maybe it's just my general state of unawareness, but I don't remember any of this, at all. What I remember of her reputation is that of a victim, of multiple coaching changes and of the Hayes' plague. Except the one drive by poster who showed up after the handshake line deal (which IMO is important), I don't recall hearing RJ was a problem.

I definitely don't remember anyone expressing an iota of hesitation or doubt around here about taking her. Quite the opposite, we were overjoyed.

I'm really surprised if this situation got out of hand; I thought Kellie had it all sewed up with RJ's Mom on board, along with Jordan H and her Mom. Hopefully whatever's going on, it's minor and will be behind us all soon.

BTW, if the violation was the handshake line, why did RJ play the next two games? Skipping the line was on video, not like an investigation was needed. This is all a strange and scary situation.

I don't think we have to win a National Championship at Tennessee anytime we get to the sweet sixteen and finish in the top four in the SEC I think the AD and Tennessee administration is going to be happy and not do anything. I don't think they are interested in paying two million to a women's basketball coach unless they get some boosters to pay the salary and pressure them to make a change. I don't think there will be any pressure as long as we make the tourney and get to the sweet sixteen. Big money going to football and Heupel he looks to be the savior of that program they will have to pay big to keep the wolves from the door.
The probably 20 percent of the fans calling for firing already really just wasting their time. The only way they will even have a case is if we don't make the tourney this season. Then you ask who they want to be the replacement? Who they got out there they want that is going to take about a million dollars a season? Cause that is all Tennessee is paying unless the big money men get involved and I haven't heard even a peep like we did with Holly. That was only after she went 7 and 9 in the SEC.

The theory I have on that is that the coaches were caught up in the games and didn't notice until they watched the film for review or someone told on her. I wouldn't think our coaches would be this unaware, but they evidently may have lost a timeout in the Gonzaga game thinking that a media timeout was one of theirs. So maybe it is a possibility it took them that long to find out.

Last word on Rickea is I don't know what she did, but she needs to play if she is being allowed to stay. I don't believe in long punishments just give her the facts if whatever happens again she will be on a plane out of here. I don't see the need to sit her to make a decision especially if she is allowed to be on the bench for the games. She either did something that she won't be allowed to play here again or she has her warning and game suspension and can play from here on as long as the rules are observed.

So does not getting in the handshake line twice sound like it could be a possibility. It happened against Gonzaga in the Bahamas and at least one other time. ...

When I heard the news she was suspended, the first thought that came to my mind was "attitude." In one game, after scoring, RJ turned around to an opponent and clapped her hands at her, almost in her face, which looked like a form of intimidation and taunting. My wife and I rewound it to see it again to make sure, wondering, "Did that really just happen?" Unfortunately, it did. I wondered if a technical might even be called, but it wasn't. Like others, I have no idea why the suspension and can only speculate. My hunch is (and this is only a hunch) that there could be issues with attitude, coachabilty, sportsmanship, and/or cooperation. "Indefinite" could mean "Until the player fully recognizes the gravity of the situation and is working to improve." RJ is an extremely talented player and should have a very bright future ahead. I get the feeling Coach Harper is more about just winning. She is helping to mold these girls into being better people -model citizens in in our society. This might be a matter of implementing some "tough love" to help instill humility. Lets hope whatever this is, RJ responds positively, grows from the situation, and becomes a better person from it.

That was definitely the overwhelming sentiment. Hell, even *I* was overjoyed. But there was definitely a segment who posted here, mostly fans of other teams I believe, expressing surprise Kellie would take on Jackson's perceived "baggage."

I didn't mean to imply this was the reason for the suspension, just like her incident with Walker wasn't. My point is that Jackson has been playing here a month and we're already seeing a pattern of, let's say, less than exemplary behavior.

Also remember Miles was found passed out drunk behind the wheel of a running car and she received a game suspension. Jackson didn't get a game, she got "indefinitely" whatever the hell that means. I don't know what she did, but it sure doesn't look to be a minor thing like missing a class...

Thanks for admitting you don’t have a clue. You did mean to imply. You even wrote a drawn out post making accusations you had no facts to prove. You don’t know what she did and it’s laughable you would try to back out of what you said.

Seems easier to back when you're in the Runner up, E8 and FF, 13 years of the of the time given. Plus the equity of the two titles.

That's fair but remember CP used to stare opponents down. A little bit of an edge is okay, good even, but there is a line.

I hate to think what “fans” on this forum would say about any Coach who went 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 29 years with no National Championship.
Don’t think fans expect days of past. Believe many want consistent E8 and FF though. You get there you have a chance for a championship. An occasional SS goes down smoother when you have equity in the bank.

The Lady Vols have played in every NCAA tournament. We are currently not in the tourney according to the latest ESPN Bracketology released overnight.

That is a real concern. The media has taken notice and so have fans. Of course, we could turn it around and make the tourney. But it is valid to discuss as we sit at 4-5.

Context is key. We were a Top 5 preseason team. Fans would be patient if this was a rebuilding year. It’s not. It’s year 4. And the talent is there. So hopefully Kellie and company can fix whatever is holding us back.

We need to do something different. New ideas. New tactics. New work ethic. What we are doing now isn’t working. The media and fans can see it and are justified in pointing it out.

Plenty of time after the season if we don't make the tourney and the ones that want to talk about firing now should do it if it makes them feel better. I agree not making the NCAA tourney would be a firing offense. I don't know what is going to happen, if we don't get the three players back and cut the rotation it could get ugly. I don't think a few of these players are going to help. They had a huge chance Sunday and failed. I think some will get another chance tonight and another 6 for 31 will make even tonight a close game.

Too early to write them off. The only reason they aren't in bracketology is because they have a losing record. It's doubtful they will have a losing record when the teams are being selected. They need to beat some good teams though. The challenging schedule is nice and all, but it doesn't do them any good if they beat bad teams and lose to teams that are good to very good. It's ok to lose to SC, Stanford and UConn, but they need to beat LSU and Arkansas. Maybe another SEC team might distinguish themself once conference play begins, but it looks like these are the only 5 "good to very good" teams left on the schedule. They also can't lose to any of the other SEC teams. It's a weak conference this year outside of those 3 teams, and inability to beat the top teams and some losses to lower tier teams will just make things harder for them.

Am I the only one that’s actually enjoyed the schedule despite the losses?! I’d rather see good, competitive, interesting games, than us vs a D2 school. I’d rather us lose these games now, than in March. I just want us to appear to get better game after game and eventually start winning!

How long will this drag on? Guess we do not know what happened. Not sure we know for sure what happened with her last year about this time of year either. Hope it ends well but this is not a good situation
Ask any of us MS State fans and we can tell you exactly what's happening.

I don't know think I'd rather be in LSU's spot 10 and 0 have only played one team with a 100 ranking and yet they are 11th in the nation and a number three seed in Bracketology. I'd like to say it will come back to bite them, but that doesn't appear to be the case. They should easily win at least 11 or 12 in the SEC and evidently the way polls and bracketology seems to ignore who you have played seems the best way to give all players numerous playing time get their confidence up and everybody feeling fabulous about the record even if it is a tainted one.
