LSU has ten wins in their pocket none of them could beat Tennessee's second team. Makes Mulkey look like a genius as the media fawns over her gives her a number 11 ranking. Charlie Creme says they are a three seed. Then there is us lost to four teams ranked in the top 13 and one ranked 22 and were not a top 64 team.Yeah but you have to take in account that crazy stuff happens - injuries, teams better than she thought, etc. This was a real all or nothing scheduling gamble.
That's fair but remember CP used to stare opponents down. A little bit of an edge is okay, good even, but there is a line.
Schedule might be fine for a preseason top 5 which was proven and had played together. Too much unknown with this team for such a murderer's row sched IMO. Could have dialed it back a bit and still made it interesting.Given the pre-season expectations, did anyone think they'd lose all 5 games that they did? And this is before getting to Stanford and UConn OOC. The schedule was fine for a team that was a preseason top 5 team. There was no reason for them to have lost a lot of the games they did with the talent they have on their team.
That's always true and for everyone. UConn's schedule is a perfect example. They beat some pretty good teams while shorthanded and it didn't catch up to them until they lost Fudd in the 1st half vs. ND. Tennessee had a full, healthy roster of their key players for 3 out of the 5 losses, and they lost to two teams that also had key players out due to injury.Yeah but you have to take in account that crazy stuff happens - injuries, teams better than she thought, etc. This was a real all or nothing scheduling gamble.
For starters, you’ve got to be .500 or better to qualify. Although he did bend over backwards to explain UConn’s resume being better than OSU. Didn’t say nary a thing about Garage Sale Barbie…LSU has ten wins in their pocket none of them could beat Tennessee's second team. Parker also got hit with a technical or a talking to be the refs on more than one occasion for the staredowns. You make an excellent point. I felt this one indeed crossed the line, as you say. As I recall, TN was ahead quite a bit in the game, and the optics just weren't good. There was just no reason for it. I don't think it's a reflection of the culture of this current team.
They asked Mulkey about her schedule. Her answer was YOU DON'T THINK I WAS GOING TO SCHEDULE THE GOOD TEAMS UNTIL I KNOW WHAT I GOT. The problem with that statement is she didn't schedule any excepting Oregon State number 47 which is coming up.Schedule might be fine for a preseason top 5 which was proven and had played together. The problem is, even if we get things turned around, we've dug a very, very deep seeding hole which is going to cripple any post season chances.

Chances of what?
When we start playing like gangbusters, we move up. We won't be a 16 seed playing a #1 seed. And even if we were, we'd have enough talent to beat #1 seeds.
When we gel, there's no top seed that would want us in their bracket. This is early December. We have months to improve, and a conference tournament in which to put out improvement on display.

Great point about Vic, who is no pushover, wanting RJ back. Also, the MS situation was so fraught, coaches left, coaches got sick, and of course Hurricane Hayes happened. I'm sure sides were taken and factions formed. Hard to tell whose info would be reliable. One thing about Miss St fans and their take on Rickea is they are all over the place. Some say nothing was her fault there. Others blame her and some say no one was a fault. You won't ever get the exact truth cause some are mad cause she left. Some just formed an opinion and made it the truth. The problem I see with all of it is that Schaefer who coached her the most did everything he could to get her to Texas and yet some Miss St fans say there were problems even when he was there. So why did he try so hard to get her back?
Chances in tourney diminish just because we'll see way better teams way sooner. Yeah, if we beat them all great. But mathematically, and realistically the lower seed really raises the odds against success. Of course we have to beat them all eventually, but a lower seed makes the odds of an early exit way greater. These early season losses could have some impact on the LV's seeding but, you are right, if they get hot in the SEC schedule, seedings always favor the teams that finish strong. A different context of course but the famous, Cinderella season was marked by a very slow and bumpy start.
I appreciate and applaud your enthusiasm and hope you are right. There is a lot of basketball to be played over the coming weeks. But, I'm concerned that your word "when" should be "if."
Not playing the first two game at home is a huge disadvantage. We could still get that back, but it looks like we would need about 14 SEC wins and a win over one or two of the big three.Chances in tourney diminish just because we'll see way better teams way sooner. I'm trying to balance out the posters who have already written the team off in early December before conference play even begins. A little optimism now & then doesn't hurt.
I learned that as an athlete and as a coach. There's a reason the games are played on the court and not on paper (or computer analytics).
I don't see an improvement in the team work and we've had enough games to get that right. Still have poor decision making by to many players. I did see huge improvement on defense in the last couple of games.Understood and very much appreciated. But as a former athlete and coach, I will remain concerned until I see evidence of a turnaround. GLVs!
