His swing and lag was pure gold.

Fowler's swing works for him, that's all that matters, if he has a downside it's his streaky putting, his stroke gets a little quick at times and pushes alot 6 to 12 footers out of the hole, can't miss that many putts inside 12ft and expect to pocket too many 1st place checks on the tour and certainly not in a major, kid's got what it takes from the tee and the iron game though.
He's really just long right now. He'll control the ball better over time and be a better full wedge player. He's going to be strong IMO.

Everyone redirects. Some just do it more than others. The superflat guys just done get enough extension. With length at an enormous premium, that's a problem.

Well, that was my point, Jim Furyk looks like a helicopter at the top and half way down is perfect. Others hardly have to make any adjustments at all. And individuals like Norman are near perfect.

too bad he looks absolutely ridiculous on the course.

i can't tell if he's ironing his pants or the bill of his hat before each round.

All that lag requires some otherworldly timing. He was makig up for his limited shoulder turn at that point.

He was a ball striker, but was no better of an iron player than Tiger.

The huge hat pulled over his ears is the dumbest looking thing I've ever seen on tour, including Camilo's tiny ass sweaters.

That's ridiculous. Ask Nicklaus and Tiger who the best ball strikers are/were: They will say Hogan and Norman.

I don't care wha they'll say for the camera. Tiger is the best iron player ever. This from a guy who isn't a tiger fan. Consistency was the hallmark of Norman and Hogan, but they could never have hit many of the shots Tiger and Jack could unload. The towering two iron doesn't come from that flat one plane thing.

Villegas wears tighter clothes than many women i've dated.

have you seen the haircut homeboy rocks under the hat? it's probably as ridiculous as the hats.

What ever you want to think. Hogan was unparalleled in terms of ball striking.

He's pretty accurate as well as long, hits a high percentage of fairways, the missed fairways on 17 and 18 today cost him a much better shot at birdies and a win or at least a playoff though.

In fact, in terms of ball striking, I'd put Trevino ahead of Tiger as well.

Ball striking is an overused stat for consistency. That he was. He didn't hit his irons any better or more consistently than Tiger. He also didn't have the towering long iron rockets to fall back on. Just didn't have it, at all. You keep telling me about the pundits on TV, then ask a few of the old guys.

Hogan was a US Open dream. Tiger is a dream on any track without penal rough.

That's absurd. He couldn't win at Augusta and knew it because his ballstriking wasn't capable.

Tiger is not Hogan, no way. If you want to look at the overall game, Tiger has more at his disposal. No one, and I mean no one could control the ball like Hogan. Jack and Tiger are pundits? Ask a few of the old players who had more control of the ball, and they will not tell you Tiger.

I haven't seen anything that supports Hogan as a better iron player. Tiger dies things with irons that nobody has before and can now. His GIR numbers are unfathomable for a guy that can't hit a fairway.

The game has changed a lot since the 50s and 60s. Heck, it has changed a lot since Persimmon woods were replaced.

Just about every single old school player will pick Hogan over Tiger with ball striking/control. Tiger has a short game and putting stroke that is unparalleled, light years better than Hogan. Jack was the same way, no one has all the intangibles that these two have. Tiger has a short game and putting stroke that is scary good, with a top notch swing.

It's like comparing Michael Jordan with Larry Bird, you obviously take Bird with the three point shot, but Jordan has all the intangibles that make him better.

Agreed. Trevino, in his prime, was a ridiculously straight driver (though not very long) and relentlessly tenacious. The prototype for U.S. Open success. The closest modern parallel to Trevino is Jim Furyk, IMHO. The "old school" player whose game I think is most similar to Tiger's, oddly enough, is Seve Ballesteros.

It has also been said, and this is certainly debatable, that the modern "Tiger-proofed" version of the Masters is pretty much a putting contest, which is why guys like Zach Johnson and Mike Weir own green jackets.
