Rickie Fowler.....

Let me preface by saying I am not a big fan of Tiger.

But his iron play is the best ever.

Your opinion of course. My opinion is that it is one of the best but not the clear cut best. I have played with and seen too many great iron players over the years to call Tiger's iron play the best ever.

YOu know, some opinions are more qualified than others

Well then, in your "expert" opinion, who would you give that distinction to?

I don't know that there is one "best ever" iron player. As others have noted, Hogan was a great iron player, but was really more of a great, pure ball striker than a great all around iron player. It is hard to argue against an in his prime Johnny Miller. Never has anyone hit so many irons straight at the flag Many are in the grouping of "one of the best". Nick Faldo was exceptional and when in his prime, as good an iron player as Woods is now. Probably a little better with the 7-8-9 irons whereas Tiger is better with the 4-5-6. Bernhard Langer was(actually still pretty darn good) exceptional for a number of years. Where Nicklaus was so good and now Tiger, is with the longer irons. Having the talent to be able to hit a high, soft 2 iron from the rough is extreme. Billy Casper was a fantastic iron player. Davis Love III is one of the best ever with an iron in his hand. He has one of the best (if not THE BEST) positions at the top I have EVER seen

I respect BPV's opinions but in this case he is wrong. There are just too many who were exceptional

But there's nothing wrong with calling one of them the best.

I suppose I can't say, but you're right, there's nothing wrong with calling one of them the best. It might not be accurate though. I can definitely say the best iron player I actually played with and competed against was Davis Love. I also saw Rocco Mediate hit 32 out of 36 greens at Sawgrass CC in the first two rounds of a college tournament back in the fall of 1983.

Miller - too short lived
Hogan - money, but not the heat
DLIII - better driver and still can't touch Tiger in GIR or avg distance to the pin.
Faldo - control throughout the bag, but was more of a course manager and driver ti set up % plays. Love his game. Wouldn't consider trading Tiger's iron game for it.

Top to bottom in the bag, Tiger is the best ever. Obviously it's an opinion, but I'll take Tiger's

only those who are the best golfers within a 50 mile radius of where they live can truly comment on who is the best iron player ever.

The equipment has so dramatically changed and improved over the years that it's impossible to say who the best iron player is or was. I've heard several of today's older touring pros say that if you gave a set of todays irons to Hogan, Gene Sarazan or Byron Nelson, you'd have to replace the flags after each round due to the damage caused by the darts they'd throw.

It's going to be interesting seeing Fowler progress. Will he be another Ty Tryon or will he up his game

no it doesn't. but keep telling us that and we'll keep mocking the stupidity of the statemnt.

Yes it does. You're the only one mocking, taking a statement totally out of context and then erroneously trying to apply it to every post I make. Yes, I honestly believe playing ability and experience make one more qualified than those who are average or below average s and have never been in any type of championship competition.

In other words, it is highly likely my opinion is far more qualified than your opinion on this matter

again, no, it's not.

nobody cares if you win your club championship every year or you're the only person that lives in the aforementioned 50 mile radius.

it's not like you said that in general conversation and now it's being used against you. you dropped that on us in attempt to somehow validate your opinion as being superior to anybody else's, when, in fact, it isn't.

also, you've never backed that up either to my knowledge. if you're so great, please share with the board where we can find information about your golfing career.

Nope.

And Doozer, I don't care what you think about me. I have no reason to lie. Don't get caught letting yourself think your opinion on the golf game is anywhere near as qualified as my opinion. Your opinion on many other subjects is probably more qualified than mine, but not golf. And it's not even close

Just because you played in college or wherever doesn't automatically make you an expert.

I've won my CC 3 times. All that means is I can play. Doesn't make my opinion any greater. Same with you.

You're right, it doesn't automatically make me an expert, but I am anyway. You're crazy if you don't think a greater understanding of the game makes for a better opinion. Now, some guys with higher handicaps have a great understanding of the game, but it is an exeption and not the rule. And yes, being around and playing with some great players over the years gives one a better perspective than someone who hasn't had the same exposure. Simply being a big fan and watching a lot on TV doesn't equate into having informed opinions

Yes, I am more of an expert than 99.9% who post in this forum.

T-Town, what makes you think I need your affiirmation?
Just because you weren't good enough to play anything beyond the high school level doesn't mean others weren't.

You need to know something about people before claiming superiority.

And since we're playing "that" game... I've got a good idea you couldn't sniff a slider.

Man that felt good.
