RIP Bobby Denton

I loved his phrasing on play calling. I loved the seriousness of his voice. The no nonsense type. Man I'm upset! Prayers for his family.

They better get his replacement right on this one. This is the voice that EVERYBODY hears. They screw this up and they'll hear about it. Man I'm upset! I've been to a lot of stadiums and Mr. Denton was the best

I am 47 and feel the same way.No John ward and now no Bobby Denton

you took the words out of my 48 yr old mouth. i'll always miss both.

i recall my first game, 1976 Tennessee vs Kentucky, and my dad telling me to listen carefully when he announced the concession prices.

rest in peace Bobby Denton.

WIVK radio legend, Neyland PA announcer Bobby Denton dies » Knoxville News Sentinel

Bobby has brought the same humor into the Neyland Stadium press box for every home game. While there's been dispute between him and the legendary Vol Network broadcaster John Ward over who coined the phrase, "It's football time in Tennessee!" there's one phrase of Bobby's that can never be refuted.

During his inaugural days calling UT football games, he would announce stadium concession prices and then suggested, as prices began to rise, printing them in the game programs. Today, 15 minutes before kickoff, the crowd still roars as Bobby makes his customary, and now famous, pitch. "Today's concession prices are found on page 99 of your souvenir program book. We urge you to pay these prices and please pay no more."

He will be missed.

Here's hoping they've got recordings they can use like the Yankees have with Bob Sheppard.

That is the only voice I ever heard inside of Neyland and him and John Ward had that distinctive voice that you can't replace. Neyland will not be the same, Another piece of History died today but the memories will live forever.
RIP Mr Denton , prayers going out to his family for peace.

RIP. As someone wrote earlier, It feels like a piece of my childhood has gone. So many memories with my family and Vol family. It just will not be the same! Prayers sent to his family. What a great legacy.

I echo those sentiments. I remember being a kid at Neyland and going to games with Dad (we always got there early) and hearing the pregame. I always remember the "pay these prices..." line. As my Dad and I have gotten older, we still get there early, and now we say the line together (along with many other friends as Neyland). I will miss Bobby, similar to the way that I missed Ward when he retired, but I also feel very fortunate to have heard his voice for so many years!

I remember when he called a SC game, it was like 3rd & 27, and he came over the mic saying, "3rd down and a long, long way to go." The crowd went nuts.

My favorite phrase of his was (as an example), "Alexander carries for no gain...met first by Thompson...AND THEN A HOST OF VOLUNTEERS!!!!!".... I will miss that great voice, RIP.

I am deeply saddened... I really can not believe that my children are going to grow up hearing something different from "It's Football time in Tennessee".

Does anyone know when the funeral is going to be? Definitely a man worth going to pay your respect to..
