RIP Bobby Denton

Very sad day indeed. Prayers to Bobby and his family. Bobby was definitely a huge part of Tennessee tradition and a true icon. Not a lot of people around that remembers a time before Bobby was there and I'm one of them and I've been going to games over 45 years. I don't know how I'll react to hearing someone else announce the games. Such a great person with an irreplaceable voice.

"It's Football Time in Tennessee!!!"

Mr. Denton, you may be gone but your voice will echo in Neyland for all eternity. I am so happy that my young ones got to experience what you brought to the games just as I did.

Thank you for so many great memories. Heaven's got one awesome PA guy now. God bless you and prayers for the Denton family.

A very sad day in Big Orange Country. I've been going to games at Neyland Stadium since 1971 and he's always been there. I will miss "pay these prices and please pay no more" , "...And a HOST of Volunteers!" & "It's Football Time in Tennessee!" What an Icon. We'll miss you, Bobby.

almost, but not quite as much, as i miss john ward.

and, almost, but not nearly as much, as i miss UT being one of the dominant teams in the SEC.

Man sad news. As many have said, Im 35 and have been going to games since I was 5 years old. Besides the sheer size of the stadium, his voice was the first things i noticed about the Neyland experience. That loud serious tone really sets the stage that you are ready to "go to battle" so to speak. I of course don't know anything else. It will be very strange to be in the stadium and hear something other than Bobby over the PA. I hope they do a special tribute for him before or during the first game this season.

I know this much. When I get to Neyland to watch a game next season, and whoever takes over the PA opens the mic and starts talking, I am going to miss Bobby. So if you see a scrawny bald guy fighting back tears, just excuse me for a moment. I have a feeling I will not be the only one. RIP, Bobby Denton, and thank you for so many great memories.

R.I.P. Mr. Denton. IMO, the university should have a statue or something to honor him

A big part of Neyland is gone/moved on... but won't ever be forgotten.
RIP Bobby Denton, and thank you.

RIP Bobby Denton.

After spending my early years listening to John Ward on the radio, I remember being blown away by Bobby's voice as well when I finally made it to Neyland.

What a blessing to have been able to hear them both!

Not gonna lie, there were times I thought it was time for him to step aside. Then I just started taking his mispronunciations of player's names and sometimes garbled announcements as part of the character of Neyland.

I will miss his catchphrases such as "Pat these prices... " "a HOST of volunteers" and "3rd and the River".

I watched the WBIR news earlier and it was mentioned that he used to date Dolly Parton back in the day and they read a statement from her. I didn't know this. The guy just keeps getting more and more interesting.

So sad...condolences to his family.

I've been to Neyland nine times to watch UF play you guys. Denton was a great, and I mean GREAT PA announcer.

I loved how he would make that dramatic pause calling out a crucial down and distance when UT was on defense.

Third.........and TWELVE!!!

I was able to go To my first game last year and I had always heard about him and now I can say I was able to hear him in person and have that memory of that long standing tradition

Miss his calls already. :(

Wish I could go back and relive the 90s of Tennessee football. We didn't realize how good that we had it.

I'm 43, so that's the only voice I've heard over the PA.
I'd say Haywood and Bobby are reminiscing as we speak.

It's really going to be weird sitting in that stadium and not hearing that voice. I didn't realize how big a part of my game day the man was.

That is true in so many areas of life. Feeling very nostalgic tonight.

When I was a kid and South Carolina would be in town he'd always pronounce it like...."3rd & 18.........gameCOCKS!!!"
