Yes correct both are used to protect original work. And honestly it isn’t very consistent on patent protection but companies generally have inherent copyright protection on schematics, pcb artwork, source code, etc… all of our document and source file headers have standardized copyright statements.

And engineers are generally horrible at thinking about this stuff. In the last few years of my career I can think of two suppliers that were just going to give me copies of source code and schematics without their copyrights. They were trying to do the right thing and they trusted me. I told them both never do that again and get them marked for protection I could wait. Their managers appreciated that gesture from me/us. They weren’t worried about me but it’s a really bad way to do business.

I once interviewed a dude that literally goes like by line looking for violations so a company can sue.

Oh I’ll bet he’s a wonderful guy to hang around with. What a life.

I hate patent lawyers. I’m not fond of most all lawyers but I really hate patent lawyers. I have three patents granted. By the time they were done with the application I couldn’t tell you what we patented. I am pretty sure on one of them we took credit for inventing the personal computer 🤷‍♂️

I had to sign my life away when it came to patents when I started work for my company. They gave a one dollar award plus a plaque for getting a patent issued and they kept any money made.

Yeah we had the same arrangement for transfer of the IP. We signed a standard Assignment of Inventions form at hiring which is common. But we were paid for a decision to file we got I think $2500 to $5k just on the decision to file? Because if they didn’t there’s no way in hell I would have filed a single one. Did I mention how much I hate patent lawyers?

Meh. Jordan didn't play that long. He has more titles and MVP's but he played in a worse era with rules and a league that favored his talent. The league wasn't all that strong when Lebron was young, but it's been so strong the last 12+ years and his total body of work is pretty unbelievable. Lebron's teams from 2011-2018 would've beat the **** out of every finals team Jordan faced.

You can laugh but look at the Utah Jazz. They only had 4 guys who could play and 2 were short guards old enough that they were on the decline and they fkn went to 2 straight finals and won 126 regular season games. I don't think they could beat the 2021 Jazz, who were like 8 deep with 2 stars in their prime and lost in the 1st round of the playoffs. The league was watered down from too much expansion. There was no depth.

Lebron saw more good wing defenders vs the Warriors than Jordan saw vs 5 finals opponents combined.
