RIP Twitter

why wouldn't it continue to? have you seen anything indicating verification would no longer be required?
The procedure hasn't been announced, but if they're switching from the apply/receive to pay/receive model it's likely to muddy the waters.

why not apply/pay/receive? verification has value if it is verification. hard to sell verification if it doesn't indeed have verification.

seems you are jumping to conclusions that don't have any basis

To me the check mark would hold no value if just anyone can pay to get it and I think Musk is probably smart enough to know this.

I've long thought that users should be able to verify their identity (with ID) without being "important." That's still not going to happen.

But I imagine there are many public figures that don’t need the status symbol and simply want to be correctly identified.

I think Musk could easily get $20 bucks a month if he makes the check mark more exclusive, public figures greatly desire the exclusivity.
Probably could.

Seems like reducing the status, while still getting public figures to pay for the id, would be just the kind of troll that interests Musk though.

A huge chunk would just expense the monthly fee out as a business cost or take a tax deduction on it I’d guess (assuming it could pass the bar for a valid expense, not my area to know for sure)

I never thought that Members Only jacket would go out of style.... but it did

Their former CFO said the other day he thought it was brilliant and something that should have been done long ago.

Decentralized social network Mastodon grows to 655K users in wake of Elon Musk's Twitter takeover

Open source, decentralized social network Mastodon has been benefiting from the chaotic Twitter takeover by Elon Musk. In addition to seeing a record number of downloads for the Mastodon mobile app this past weekend, the nonprofit company today announced a new milestone. In a post on Twitter — where Mastodon has been successfully marketing its app to those now considering leaving the service — it noted that 230,000 people have joined Mastodon in the last week alone. Thanks to these new sign-ups as well as people returning to old accounts they had set up previously, the network now has 655,000 active users, the post noted.

When Twitter Blacklists a Common Opinion as 'Misleading,' It Shows That Fascism Is Still Alive and Well in San Francisco

Last Friday, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk took over Twitter. There were some initial waves made when three top Twitter executives and an anti-free-speech nazi were shown the door (see The Crying Begins After Elon Musk Drops the Hammer at Twitter). A lot of schadenfreude ensued this week when Musk proclaimed Twitter’s “verified” user system that awards a blue checkmark to accounts that jump through enough hoops “bullsh** and seemed to say that such accounts would be open to everyone for $8/month, see Elon’s Move to Change Twitter Verification System Is Causing Liberal Blue-Check Tantrums. From the wailing and gnashing of teeth on the left, one would think that a new day of liberty was at hand on the liberal plantation.
