RIP Twitter

You’re wrong
This is clearly musk hypocrisy
Or huff is a partisan hack.

I think it’s the hack option

What am I partisan about, even? Whose side am I on? Make it make sense.

Parody for the sake of comedy is protected speech. Pretending to be someone for the sake of misinformation is not parody.

Nice straw man and ad hominem. Not sure you meant it or just don't understand the nuances of the discussion you're engaged in. @hog88 too

We have our posting history here on the site. You can lie all about me but I got the receipts. I don't have a side except my own, and my position is that I want things to be good. I will defend public figures against people trying to prevent them from doing good. I will attack public figures for not doing good. And I'm gonna make fun of everybody, including the public figures I like.

I'm not even sure what side Musk is on, TBH, except his own. Here are some of the times I defended/supported him after he announced takeover with free speech intentions. These posts came in between critiques of Musk. Real partisan hack stuff, here.

That's not how it went down at all.

You're here to nay say and it barely has anything to do with it being a good or bad business deal.

I've been saying all along that the left's attempts to control social media conversations backfire on them and might be doing more harm than good for their causes. Well, in the case of Twitter I can 100% say that is true. They went so far that they inspired Musk to buy it and attempt to fix the problem.

Jesucristo

It doesn't make sense. Biden is a clown. Trump is a clown. Musk is one of the most impressive people on the planet.

^ kinda wish I could have that one back and just keep my mouth shut

OK, but is that what happened?

I am neutral and though I didn't delete my account, I did delete it off my phone and never used it because I thought they were going too far. It's back on my phone now. I've also heard people say they are joining for the first time. I find it hard to believe that most liberals with a twitter account will delete it, unless it does play out the way they fear. Don't get caught up in all the loud people doing a Jerry Maguire exit right now. They're not representative of the people.

Ehhhh. Trump is jealous that Musk is way richer than him and can just buy Twitter instead of failing at tech startups.

Is the recent brouhaha re Twitter because Musk wants parody accounts to identify as such?

If so, here's my opinion as a non Twitter user:

Once the blue check for verification became SOP, then extra measures beyond the name of the account became the de facto rule on Twitter. Therefore, I don't see how it is wrong (or harmful) to enforce parody account identification. We all would hope the user could discern parody based on context, but some accounts exist only as fakes (see FF today as example). To me, twitter is similar to a newspaper and in that sense, the newspaper has sections for opinion, satire, and parody. Twitter should, too. And the coup de grace is, Twitter is a private company and is allowed to make decisions based on the owner(s) wishes.

It's actually a crime in most or all states, sometimes punishable by severe penalties. I've been reading up on online impersonation/ defamation, and in many cases, it is deemed as a crime against personal character, similar to libel or slander.
Is it illegal in Tennessee to put Elon Musk in your Twitter.com bio?

Is pretending to be someone else to produce misinformation “free speech”?
This isn't an actual "free speech" issue because there's not government action.

It's about Musk going on and on for months about cancel culture, "the bird is free," etc. Then as soon as people start ridiculing him on the platform, he suspends them.

If you don't see that he's just winging it as he goes along, you're not looking very closely.

Living in a bubble with your yes-men.

That falls into the , you can’t fix stupid category. That’s not a social media platform problem . The very thing that this country and it’s soft ass parents , teachers and politicians have done to try and bubble wrap everyone to keep their feelings from being hurt , or anything bad is thing that has created people that can’t function without being told what or how to think .

What I’m saying is your opinion would not be the same now as it was 6 months ago if the situation was reversed.

Remember when the morons on the left could not tell the difference between Tina Fey and the lady running for Vice President?
It’s not unreasonable to make someone clearly identify as a fake. That’s hardly a one sided issue. There are goober from both tribes that can’t tell the difference. Claiming this action is some for of hypocrisy is just Fing stupid

But I digress

I don't think it's some big problem that he's cracking down on parody accounts. Who really cares, except it's fun to make fun of him for it. This wasn't a problem until he created it this past week. It's pretty funny.

Also, what are the odds anybody liking your post now were liking posts a year ago where the message was that Twitter is a private company? Probably not good.

Free speech is broader a concept than what the government allows.
Since we've hit on concepts, I'd like to remind that the government doesn't "allow" free speech. The concept is the government cannot prohibit free speech...especially speech related to government or its agents. And yet, there are instances where it is prohibited or at least consequential.

Free speech outside of that concept, isn't unlimited and it is frequently consequential. We've recently seen platforms limit or exclude based on ideology, bias and prejudice, bigotry, etc.
