RIP Twitter

I see it as a potential problem. A "PizzaGate" style conspiracy theory - more than likely started by far-right conservatives - will definitely be brought to Twitter at some point in the next 2 years ... will it be allowed to accuse innocent people of being child molesters or will it become banned subject matter? It's not as far fetched a belief as "we are sims".

I’m concerned a well coordinated conspiracy might spread via Twitter accusing the sitting president of the United States of being a Russian agent.

Let me approach it this way :

Social media platforms are fertile ground for malicious lies to flourish in the form of politically-based conspiracy theories, which accuse innocent people, such as James Alefantis (owner of the Comet Ping Pong Pizzeria in DC), of running a business which serves as a front for a Satan worshipping cabal and child sex trafficking ring. This nearly led to a tragedy when a nut named Edgarr Madison Welch shot up his restaurant in 2016. Thankfully, no one was injured.

It seems like Musk, would believe just about anything, with very little proof. This is why I would be concerned about him owning Twitter. "PizzaGate" should not be protected by the 1st Amendment. It should never be considered free speech to slander someone... but how does Musk feel about this? I would be interested to know.
You should tweet at him and ask. Oh, forgot you deleted the app.

Slander isn't protected free speech.

So you believe that any possible conspiracy theory from pizza gate to aliens to trump pee tape to lies about police brutality to Jessie smollett to Stacey Abrams saying the GA election was rigged to anything should never be discussed on social media and all who discuss these items should be banned

Also slander is already illegal. That’s not what that is. 😂
Yes, James Alefantis was slandered. That's exactly what it was.

PizzaGate is nothing akin to the Living in a Sim theory. From all your links that seems to be the "crazy theory" you are most focused on.

One is a philosophical exploration of the nature of reality while the other is a specific criminal conspiracy. One is posited by noted experts in the field and has any number of legitimate published articles, presentations and books while the other is limited to clearly biased outlets.

FTR, I don't believe discussion of PizzaGate should be banned subject matter anymore than any other crazy BS ideas.

see now you've changed the discussion from "society" regulating expression to a private company. I think virtually all here think Twitter had the right ban/disallow certain expression

however Obama and you appear to be advocating a role for government in deciding what should be allowed.
I do advocate a role for "society" / government.

It always will build on the limiting pharmaceuticals (or an individual) from falsely advertising their product concept.

@BowlBrother85
it seems to me you believe twitter is a platform which needs to be protected from a crazy man allowing crazy things. Why is that? Wouldn't twitters spiral into lunacy simply means the app is no longer appealing to the majority?

Or asked another way, what makes twitter more sancrosanct than other obscure social media outlets like Reddit sub forums, 4 chan, and Volnation?

The way your humble husky sees it, this is another example of how Ls and Rs are two sides of the same coin. Rs and Ls would like to limit speech and thought when it suits their agenda.

I think we need to be fair here and give the run of the mill liberal the benefit of the doubt. Most wouldn't support banning a conservative for a difference of opinion. They do support banning a conservative for bad behavior and they probably don't mind the double standards at Twitter, but do you really think BB is somebody who is saying "ban him because he thinks homosexuality is a sin" or something along those lines?
I do. I don’t at all view him as a run of the mill liberal. He’s just as bad as some of our resident hard core righties.

He’s not like RT85, Luther, Hunderwadel, and others

Was Stacey Abrams wrong for her statements on the ga election and should take them back as they were dangerous for our electoral process?
Not in my opinion.
I don't view her comments as dangerous to our electoral process in the least. She is attempting to reduce voting suppression, not increase it.

Lmao. What a hypocrite.
Jimmy Carter uses racism in GA campaign and you not only don’t condemn it you ignore it and vote for him.

Stacey states that the voting process in GA is rigged and that “domestic Terrorists” on the other side stole the election and not only refused to concede just like trump, she called for people to take to the streets and fight it and you voted for her too

If you can’t see your own hypocrisy, you are truly indeed clueless or dishonest one

Fair enough ... it didn't have my Blue B box next to it, and I didn't remember replying to it...

... but I can admit when I'm wrong and made a mistake - you got me. I rushed to judgement and a mature, thoughtful person should never do that.
It’s not even that. I just don’t understand your logic in what you are saying about Twitter and Musk and free speech in general.

It's not complicated ... will conspiracy theories be allowed to flourish on Twitter under Elon Musk's ownership? Or will it become akin to 4chan or 8kun?
