Riyahd Jones Knee

In the press conference today which formally unveiled Tennessee's five new uniform combinations (see University of Tennessee Official Athletic Site), Butch made a statement that I presume pertained to Riyadh's condition. Unfortunately, you could not hear the questions that were presented to him. The following statement should be considered a paraphrased excerpt rather than a verbatim quote: "They're still in the evaluation process. . . . It seems now that he could be out for an extended period of time, perhaps two months. . . . He simply woke up one morning experiencing significant swelling in both calves."

Based on the limited information that CBJ gave us on this, I am speculating that it is Grade 2-3 calf strains. It would explain the excessive swelling and the treatment time that CBJ said. A grade two sprain takes 1-2 months to heal depending on its severity. A grade 3 could take 3-5 months to fully heal. The swelling around the partially torn muscle fibers and muscle might be preventing the Docs from getting a clear look at the injury, and therefore we have very generic information at this point from Butch.

Based on what this injury could be with the information that has been shared, severe strain would be the best possible reason for Riyahd. Really the only other reasons this would be happening would be heart failure, kidney failure, liver failure, or cyst burst.

Heart failure: heart is too week to pump blood up from the extremities. Blood thinners used, but would not be able to come back to sports most likely.

Kidney failure: Urine is causing swelling. Potentially could be the reason, but would require surgery and likely a long recovery with regular check ups.

Liver failure: Could be from cirrhosis due to an infection from a tattoo needle or hepatitis b or c, or many other options. Most likely would not be able to come back any time soon.

Cyst Burst: Could come back faster

Vein issues: Most likely not possible for him either in both legs, swelling up overnight
