Riyahd Jones Knee

Like it or not...it may be time to dial down some of the contact as we're getting closer to kick off. It's always a fine line...you want to have a physical camp, but you also want a healthy team heading into the season. We're starting to lose some very key players in key spots. It's not like we're 3 deep across the board. I'm just saying. Go Vols!

Does anyone know what's going on with Lemond Johnson? I figured with him having a head start as an EE, he would at least be talked about with our depth issues. I never hear his name mentioned...

So the most experienced WR is moved to defense.... Talks about our talent / depth at CB

He was moved for depth, but it also says the talent and depth we have a receiver.

Experience was the only aspect he had over our new group of WR, and from what we have heard they are bouncing back from Spring game.

You may be dissatisfied with the rate of rebuilding but it did occur. DD simply could not coach on gameday... and he made one of the worst DC hires in the history of CFB.

The roster is nowhere near the absolute train wreck it was 3 years ago. UT is not in a rebuilding mode this year. Perhaps next year after all the Srs and a couple of Jrs move on... but right now this is a team with many talented upperclassmen and enough young talent for competent coaches to plug the holes.

UT has experience issues at WR and a depth problem at CB. MOST CFB teams right now have one position or another that is a concern because of either youth or depth. You probably wouldn't need both hands to count the number of teams that have solid, experienced talent 2-deep at every position.
:hi:
I guess I'll have to agree to disagree with your assessment of Dooley's tenure. While he may have brought in some talent in specific areas, rebuilding is not just relegated to that aspect. Having talent without instilling desire or confidence is worse than not having talent at all. This is where Dooley failed. Not being privy to actually seeing the interaction of Coach Jones and his staff with the players I only have what we read and hear to go by. What I hear and read makes me anxious to see the product on the field.

So yes, this sucks and we are weak at DB, but the real question is the D line/LBs. Can they put pressure on the QB? If not, a team full of All-American DBs will eventually get torched. But if we start putting real pressure on opposing QBs we can hide a lot of weakness in the secondary. Along those same lines is can we stop the run? If so, then being able to predict passing plays due to 3rd and long will also help a weakened DB group. I think McCullers opens up rushing lanes for the LB to get to the QB this year (I hope). If people are already getting disappointed at this season due to injuries in August, I would suggest your expectations were a little too high to begin with. As high as everyone is on Jones right now, those of us who have watched this site and this fan base for a while know that if we get beat by the teams we probably should get beat by early this season, the headhunters will be out and people will be calling for a "big name hire".

This is the right point....if we can win in the trenches and get pressure on the QB, it doesn't put our put the pressure on the CBs that Wagner and Teague experienced in the past several years. Good coaches make adjustments accordingly in games, week by week, and throughout the season. This is the X factor that CBJ & Staff bring back to the table that we has been absent for 10 yrs+.

We are going to win some games we are not suppose to this year....we will do better than 6-6 because of coaching adjustments....

Has butch jones came out to even say he was injured or anything in that nature??

No, but media outlets have reported him to be on crutches. Butch has not had a presser since Saturday night when the injury happened. Probably didn't say anything then until they knew something. He is scheduled to speak to the press this afternoon

Odd situation. Part of me wants to think that as specific as he was about his "knee" that he be held out for another reason as DTV alluded to above. Hopefully this is just another "we've had nothing but bad luck the last x years... so something has to be up" kind of feelings.

I hope he is indeed healthy, and eligible this fall... Go Vols!

Where are Orta and Tino Thomas? I was really hoping we wouldn't be this dependent on Jones. Tino is tall and fast and I was hoping he would step up this year. Jones does look like a baller though, hope he is ok, and soon!

Maybe he just had a very sore knee bruise, for example knee to knee contact. Or just a hyperextension that had some swelling. It could be many things not requiring surgery. Let's hope for the best.
