Rob Lewis expects Stokes and McRae to return...

wow, really? I know McRae has several inches on him but Russ Smith is a knat on defense. I guess I may be given Smith too much credit, but for sure couldnt say McRae is MUCH better than Smith. IMO

I think he is referring to the next level where you have to figure out where Smith would play. He is 6'1 and not a point guard. How does he defend guys 6 inches taller than him who have similar athletic ability? Also how does he get his shot off?

sorry guy, but Ben Wallace can jump higher than Stokes from his knees....

Not to mention Wallace was an elite-level defender. His rebounding and defense allowed for him to be effective as a player while being limited offensively. Stokes is a rebounder at the NBA level, and not much else right now. He needs to become a more effective/versatile offensive player, or ramp up his intensity and effort defensively. Ideally, he'd do both, but that's asking a lot in one offseason.

Agree. Russ Smith will be eaten alive driving into the teeth of NBA defenses like he has grown accustomed to in college. He needs to refine his PG skills amd outside shot. He reminds me a lot of JaJuan Smith.

Russ isn't 6'1 not close to it. More like 5'10-11. He's going to struggle to find a spot in the NBA if he doesn't learn to play the PG position.

Honestly, if what people are saying about Russ Smith is true (early 2nd round), then I can't imagine why somebody wouldn't take McRae there. He's much better than Russ Smith IMO.

I think our players generally get de-valued and taken at least a little later or not at all, because we're not known as a school that produces a lot of NBA players.

That would be great news. A team of Maymon, Stokes, and McRae along with Golden, Richardson, Hubbs, Thompson, and Reese is really solid top ten potential.

Moore>>Reese.

As far as top 10. I'm not sure I am convinced that next years team has a ceiling that high.

He didnt say top ten what. :) Seriously, I agree about not sure yet how good we will/can be. Lets assume for a minute that Stokes and McRae come back one more yr. If Maymon's game is 75-100% and Darius T. is able to handle the pressure of being a D1 pg, I'm not sure I would want to paint that ceiling.

I think it will all be determined by perimeter shooting and point guard play. I am basing that prediction on Golden getting better of course he may have reached his peak.

Great news BTO. Thanks for the update!!!

I truly hope they both come back and we bring in Ndiaye as well. We need more help down low. Not sure who would need to leave, but Lopez would be one that comes to mind. Do we know any more about Landry??

If Thompson can actually handle 10-15 minutes a game at the PG so that Golden can get regular sustained rest during the season, I think Golden still has a bit more than he has shown us. I am surprised something didn't come out at the end of this season about his knee again. He seemed to be limping again at the end of the year. A injury free year for Golden would be nice to see.

Stokes is good enough to go today if he wanted. All I see on this board is desperate UT fans praying he comes back. Hes good enough that an NBA coach could eaisly develop him at this point. I could care less if he comes back or not, but IMO, he would be a 1st rounder today

You're the only person that thinks that, and I'm guessing you're not a NBA GM, so really doesn't matter.

I tend to disagree with the general consensus that players improve more by staying in college than they would in the pros... Are there not better coaches in the NBA? Better facilities? Etc, etc, etc... So on and so forth.

Now, will they improve their draft stock? Sure they may. But, is next year's draft not anticipated to be stronger?

Yep it is, which is why I could see either/both going. Stokes has 2 years left, so he doesn't technically have to go next year, Jordy obviously will though.

With all the rumors I'm reading on VN of players leaving or not coming, this would be next season's team:

Golden/Thompson
Hubbs/Moore
Richardson/Chievous
Chievous/Reese/Davis
Maymon/Davis

How many wins there?

Woodbery said earlier this week that according to the information he had, Stokes would likely leave. I guess we will know soon enough.
