Boycott the Piggly Wiggly! That will show'em.

The have over 500 businesses that stretch all across East Tennessee from Knoxville to Chattanooga. Maybe the trolls should do a little research.

God is great. Beer is good. And people are crazy.

Some more than others.

Mark Richt can speak in Gainesville and I wouldn't care
Why even chime in you have no dog in this race. Of course you don't care because Florida people don't understand the meaning of loyalty.

That's because you aren't very smart. If an Alabama Alumni Association wants Saban to speak in Athens they can invite him. This is the cities chamber of commerce hopping on the Alabama bandwagon to make a quick buck and laughing at the long-term consequences.

Well thank you for educating me. So UT wasn't looking to make a few bucks by renting out space to the Bama alumni group? If this about inviting the enemy in, then it doesn't get any closer than inviting them on campus.

I see your point about making a quick buck, but after expenses the chamber may clear $35-40K from this event. I don't know the chamber's budget or finances but that doesn't seem like "that" significant amount of money to warrant the negative exposure if, in fact, the negative exposure is that great.

If it's just a few upset Vol fans that will refuse to buy a $5 footlong at the Subway off exit 49 then it may be worth it. Those people will get over it and if they don't and refuse to step foot in Athens, then the fine folks in Athens can rest assured the collective IQ of their city will increase.

no reason to get so emotional over it.

I love these absurd arguments. We have the right to protest actions that we do not agree with. You are damn right it is a free country.

Again, troll, do your research. If you want to boycott the university of Tennessee, go right ahead. Again, maybe you should do some quick research as to who the members of the Athens Chamber actually include. This may give you a little better argument especially when insulting the IQ of others.

I'm not stepping foot in Athens now and I guarantee you my IQ is probably higher then the entire city of Athens put together.

We all know why Saban is coming into Tennessee. We have had the worst stretch of football in the schools history. Now all of the sudden Bama fans are everywhere in this state. Coincidence, I think not. The real problem is bandwagon fans that were die hard UT fans in the 90's. Boycott those idiots. The only way this will resolve itself is to start winning again. Low and behold you will see fewer and fewer bammers, thus no reason for their coach to speak here.

I'm chiming in because I find the level of anger from some to be astounding.

How many people even live in Athens, TN?

It doesn't matter. There chamber of commerce has members from all across the state. Which I've already stated multiple times in this thread. If the answers to your questions aren't going to even change your line of questioning then maybe you should give up on the whole message board thing.

It is funny, though! If UT were winning this wouldn't be a blip on the radar.

The Athens chamber had Fulmer, Peerless Price, and others from the '98 team and it drew under 300 people.

Where was the outrage with that? That's worth boycotting Athens over. :eek:lol:

Pretty silly thing to be so upset about. The event will come and go. By this time next year no one except the few in attendance will remember it even happened.

Would it matter if it was gene stallings?

This is a little harsh, I dislike Satan as much as anyone, but asking him to speak is not a crime. If he was where I could here him speak, I would probably listen to him. He obviously knows some about coaching and is a big draw to the Chamber in Athens. The only thing I have against the decision is if CBJ was available to speak, he should have been chosen and not Satan.

CDD was more than likely still the coach when this was arranged.

It is a free country, you're correct. They have the right to get Saban to speak at their event..... and UT fans, not happy about him speaking in their backyard, have the right to peacefully "protest" by saying they don't like it and showing it by not supporting the businesses in Athens that are supporting the program. Cuts both ways.

Youre allowed your opinion that its no big deal, others have theirs thinking that it sucks. That's America.

As usual KB is right on the money.

Putting fanaticism aside, why wouldn't anyone want to hear someone as successful as Saban speak? Anyone who own, operates and/or manages a business would be a fool not to ake an opportunity to learn something that could benefit said operation.
