Robert Marve

Don't you mean CAN NOT attend?

he can attend if he pays his own tuition for the first year. his family does have the money to do this. maybe an acedemic scholly or grant for special people who used to play at the U will also help.

I also heard he is thinking about Oklahoma State. Cinncy would be a bad place for him as they have 3 qb's already who have all played significantly. What I don't understand is he stated one of the reasons he wanted to transfer was because his dad had some sort of cancer, but isn't Oklahoma St. just as far if not further from his father? Plus all this stuff about him paying his own way to go here is silly...he's going to go somewhere that they will give him a shcolarship.

He's also got alot of baggage. He has already used up his red shirt year (i think) and would have to sit out a year. Why would we want to waste a year of not playing while paying for his scholarship? I'm sure Kiffin could find a better use of a Scholarship than a Miami Thug reject.

So he's sitting a semester out...how does that work in terms of academic qualifying? And I have to say that if he wants to come to UT and pay his own way that's fine with me...I'm dumbfounded he is considering that and I'm currently eating my hat due to my comments in post #47.

I remember seeing that Robert Marve was transferring away from Miami at the end of the season. Does anyone know what happened with this and any chance that the Vols could make a play for him?

Robert Marve likely will pick a school this week, and Purdue is the favorite, his father said. UM won't let him take a Tennessee scholarship, but Marve has considered paying his own way there. -- Miami Herald

Would Marve be able to accept a scholarship at UT after he sat out a year and paid his own way, or would he have to continue to pay his own way the entire time he was enrolled at UT? I assume it is just for the one year.

I beleive after the first season he can be awarded a scholarship to play. Similar to the Brandon Warren situation I beleive

Yes he would sit out this year, his sophmore year. But he would be competing for the starting job his junior and senior years. I love the idea of him or Newton coming in and holding the position down...

I'll pass. I've never been to big on this guy.

Not being argumentative about this potential, but TN has nothing to lose in this situation. He gets to practice with the team in 2009 (without a scholarship being lost)….the coaching staff can evaluate him & if he’s proven himself, we can offer a scholly for 2010. If the coaches don’t think he’s worth a crap, they don’t have to give him a scholarship.

Drawback to this is the ability to attract an elite future QB both in this class and next.
