Roe vs Wade Overturned

She performed an abortion on a 10-year-old rape victim. The right vilified her

She performed an abortion on a 10-year-old rape victim. The right vilified her | Moira Donegan

Instead of turning this into political theatre by releasing all this patient information to the public, the doctor could’ve simply labeled it as “serious health risk to the mother” and performed the abortion legally.

But that wouldn’t be as fun as pretending the law was unjust right?

This was the story that the right wing insisted was a hoax last July.

The story is a hoax. Neither Ohio nor Indiana law would have prohibited this abortion. The doctor was simply looking for attention.

She has a long history of giving public speeches as an abortion advocate, and has even been a part of aclu lawsuits regarding abortion.

No .... the right-wing, including the Ohio Attorney General, said that there wasn't a 10 year old pregnant rape victim in the state of Ohio. They claimed that no such person existed. That is what they called a "hoax."

... and they were proven wrong.

Cool. Story is still a hoax. No state law in the entire country would have banned this abortion. She claimed it did as a political stunt for attention and is a well known abortion advocate who gives speeches on the regular and has been a part of aclu law suits

It was a political stunt no different than the man beating his drum in the Covington Catholic kids face

Wrong. There really was a 10 year old, pregnant rape victim, who got an abortion. The right-wing jumped to conclusions ... and had egg on their face. How the hell did Dave Yost, the Ohio Attorney General, not know about this girl? He sure was quick to deny that she existed.

I’m not saying the patient didn’t exist. I’m saying the rest of the story is a hoax. Neither Ohio nor Indiana law would have banned this procedure. You keep arguing about something completely different.

Once again, the doctor was a well known abortion advocate who lied for attention. It’s sadly common. A friend was recently lied to by an OB in Kentucky who told her she couldn’t get an abortion for an ectopic pregnancy in TN due to their abortion laws.

Sadly there’s a lot people on the left who just makes things up about abortion laws and it has real and negative impacts on women. This is one of those

I'm not talking about you.

I'm talking about the right-wingers such as Ohio Attorney General, Dave Yost, who flatly stated that there was not a 10 year old pregnant rape victim in his state. "Not a whisper," - was exactly what Yost told Jesse Watters. Both Harris Faulkner and Jesse Watters of Fox News claimed Joe Biden had just made the whole thing up, and no such girl even so much as existed.

They were wrong.

Cool. But the case is still a hoax. Do you intend on addressing that or ignoring that?

I think it’s important to recognize what the percentage of abortions are due to rape. I see these same threads all the time trying to vilify anyone that opposes abortion.View attachment 562171

Similar studies on “later abortions” (going off memory but I believe they were counting past 20-24 weeks somewhere in there) were equally bad. It was things like “we broke up”

No, it was not!

There was a 10 year old girl, who was a pregnant, rape victim, who went to Indiana to get an abortion. A man was charged with her rape, the very same week that the Ohio Attorney General said that she did not exist. Yost called it a hoax, and claimed the whole story had been fabricated and no such girl existed. He was wrong.

This puts the whole argument about abortion into its proper context. I think the right and the left both love to make this argument into something that it's really not.

Have you read anything I’ve said to this point? At no point have I denied the patient existed.

I’ve explained why it’s a hoax multiple times now

I'm not talking about you. From the beginning, I've been talking about the right-wingers who went on Fox News, such as the Ohio Attorney General and claimed that no such 10 year old, pregnant, rape victim even existed.

Yet the story was a hoax. The girl could have gotten an abortion under state law in any state in the country. Therefore, hoax. You’re continuing to ignore that very simple fact.

No, it wasn't a hoax. The 10 year old, pregnant, rape victim did exist, and she did indeed travel to Indiana to have an abortion. A man was charged with her rape.

Jesus, are you this dense? I’m very openly saying she did not have to travel to Indiana. Zero states in the country would have banned that abortion.

How can you not understand that? For the billionth time, I’m not saying she didn’t exist or didn’t have an abortion or wasn’t raped.

I’m very clearly saying in all 50 states she could have legally received an abortion. Therefore…the story is a hoax

The girl had been turned away from two Ohio hospitals while seeking an abortion ... so you are dead wrong.

That’s a different problem. That’s called left wing misinformation affecting patient care. Like people claiming you can’t have an abortion for an ectopic pregnancy in TN.

So if she was turned away (I can’t speak to the validity of that), it seems the real issue was left wing misinformation not state law. Because 0 states in this country ban abortion when serious maternal risk is present

The real issue is that the story was 100% accurate. She was denied access to abortion in Ohio.
