Rum and limeade equals grog, right? I don't want to hijack the thread, but does anybody have a better grog recipe?

I never knew that there were grog "recipes". I always thought that making a grog entailed throwing in whatever was on hand and then stirring it with a bayonet.

I agree with Buffalo Trace, but I, personally, would choose Woodford over Four Roses. I also think that Basil Hayden's is better than all those just mentioned.

Four Roses Small batch, particarly this year's bottling blows all of those out of the water. A league of its own.

Buffalo Trace isn't anything special IMO

Same guys that make Pappy Van Winkle.

Pappy is pretty much just marketing now. Buffalo Trace has the rights to the name, but it's not 100% Pappy (as it was distilled). Stitzel Weller made Pappy but they closed and Buffalo Trace got a number of their barrels. Now, the 20 and 23 year old is a blend of original pappy and a wheated bourbon made by Buffalo Trace. The 15 year old also has Bernheim Wheat Whiskey blended in. As the original barrels are depleted, it will eventually become a 100% Bufallo Trace whiskey.

I've got about 5 bottles of original Pappy Van Winkle. I about murdered the fool who broke into my liquor cabinet during a party I was hosting a made himself a "jack and coke".

Where? I can't find any. I'd love to have another bottle.

It's been long gone. This year they hardly released any at all.

I had an opportunity to buy some in KY but it would have required me leaving my house at 3am to drive there. I'll get some next year.

McScrooges in Knoxville had 2 or 3 bottles this year. They sold them about as soon as they were delivered.

Oh well. Nevermind. Didn't know all that.

Buffalo Trace picks their best barrels to blend, so what they're releasing is still excellent - the 15 year old is the best of the the lot (and the cheapest). In several years it will be a different whiskey. Will be interesting to see what it's like vs what it costs. The pappy name is still a huge sell.

The buffalo trace antique collection - consisting of George T Stagg, William Larue Weller, and Eagle Rare 17 - are some of the best whiskeys in the world. The Pappy name is in good hands.

I'm not really a bourbon guy, but per y'all's recommendation, got some Buffalo Trace and that is workin fine for me.

Meanwhile, I tried to get some "good value" Scotch in advance of Burns Night this Friday, and the Deanston I got is disappointing; I'm having to mix it with my Jim Beam rye to make it OK for me. Maybe I'm just not a scotch guy neither.

For the Christmas party at my work I drew the GM. I know that he's a big Bacardi fan (like he only drinks Bacardi/Coke or fine wines) so I got him a nice boxed edition of Bacardi. He had just gotten a handle of regular Bacardi a couple days before that he was waiting to crack open and he said once he tasted this one that he wasn't looking forward to going back to regular Bacardi.

Bacardi 1909 Ron Superior
We are proud to present BACARDI 1909, Ron Superior, Heritage Limited Edition. Distilled at the Destileria La Galarza, in Mexico (the oldest continually operating Bacardi distillery), this Rum is a gorgeous work of beauty released to celebrate the journey and impact of BACARDI on cocktail culture all over the world. Packaged in a classy wooden case to reflect its exquisite quality and also insure it for posterity, the bottle is a replica of one of the oldest, authenticated bottles in the BACARDI archives copied down the minutest detail (even the space at the top of the bottle, which was left there to allow the rum to expand in the bottle without damaging the seal while traveling in warmer climates.). This limited edition has been bottled at the original strength of 44.5% showing a full, crisp, clean flavor that reveals how simply BACARDI could have made such a lasting powerful impact on the world and become the international sensation that it now is.In the last 100 years, the BACARDI Daiquiri has traveled from its birthplace in Cuba to the finest bars around the world where it's enjoyed to this day. This BACARDI Superior Rum Limited Edition commemorates this journey and the impact of the BACARDI on cocktail culture throughout the world. This limited edition bottle is inspired by an original design created in Cuba, 100 years ago, in 1909 and used in subsequent years.
This is a must have for any rum collector, or cocktail aficionado and a treat when tasted in a classic cocktail, like this one for instance:Daiquiri: 2 Oz Bacardi, 1 Oz Fresh Lime Juice, 2 tsp Fine Sugar. Shake with cracked ice until very cold, strain into a chilled cocktail glass-and enjoy.
