Rumor: Chris Peterson Approached by UF

Oh, I don't doubt that at all. But I don't think Florida is a really, really huge step up from UT, all things considered.

The thing that hurts UT is the in-state talent more than anything. All the other factors are there.

Why hire Chris Peterson when you can get the guy who built that Boise State program? I hear Dan Hawkins is available. No question he'd be great in a major-conference job.

another rumor, this one from tos, is there are 4 other candidates who will likely be considered for uf head coach post and these include: Jon gruden, tony dungy, bob stoops, the pope and bill cowher.

The thing that hurt TN with Peterson more than anything in my opinion was the current state of the program when Peterson was offered. FL is not depleted right now, so that may be the difference in Peterson saying yes at FL where he said no at TN.

I agree about FL being a better job than TN, but TN is a better job than Boise as well.

While I think Florida is a better job than Tennessee, the biggest difference is the fact that Tennessee was asking Petersen to leave at the last second. Tennessee was in a bind looking for a coach and Petersen isn't the type of guy that would do that to Boise State. If he is offered the Florida gig, Boise State would have plenty of time to find a coach and keep the recruiting class in tact this time around.

Well said.

Bob Stoops has turned down Florida TWICE...Why would he contact them?...He's got it made and his own legacy started at OU...He's not going anywhere.

I agree, Stoops is at a bigger school then UF imo, they have way more titles then UF has. If he does shop UF it's probaly becaue he wants a change because it's not a step up other then more pay

I can't understand why Tony Dungy, Jon Gruden or Bill Cowher would want that job? Not a single good reason. And Bob Stoops would be crazy to leave the sweet deal he has at Oklahoma. Chris Peterson? Maybe. I can see that. These other guys? No way. Total made up crap.

I could easily see Bob Stoops taking the Florida job.

Oklahoma isn't a bigger school than Florida. Isn't a better job either.

That logic is faulty at best. Notre Dame has tons of historical significance, however, due to location and a number of other factors, they're far from the ideal coaching job.

Bumi, I only remember seeing you twice on this message board and both times you've been making the same argument. Believe it or not, Florida is not the best program in the country. It doesn't have the most tradition. It doesn't have the most titles. It doesn't have a lot of things. Now this decade, you're probably right, but that's another story.

It doesn't, and if you're arguing historical significance then you'd be right.

But as of right now, it's only in the same league with Texas and USC as the best jobs. Most HS talent, most recent national championships, deepest coffers, best facilities, TV time, etc. etc.

Texas
Ohio State
Florida
Nebraska
Alabama
Oklahoma
LSU

Imo, these programs are the "top" national coaching destinations in CFB right now. If JoePa ever leaves Penn State, you can add them to list.

Michigan? USC? FSU? nebraska shouldn't be on that list.

I would take Nebraska and LSU off the list. I would replace with Florida State and Miami.

Campus Grotto ????
Some other one

I'm not arguing to say Florida is something awful. I'm arguing just to point out that Florida isnt the greatest thing since sliced bread that yall make it out to be. Just sayin...ease up on the Gatorade.

I don't know about Miami...

They could come back, but there's a lot of things in the way of that right now.

USC is not so attractive right this minute. Michigan is not as talent rich as PA. In many ways you have to recruit nationally to win, much like the UT job.

His son had his tumor taken care of a long time ago. If Chris Petersen turns down the Florida job, I'll be surprised. Far superior program, more money, better weather, easy recruiting, wont get left out of the big picture, more fan and booster support, etc. Just makes sense from a career standpoint.

I'm really beginning to think it's Petersen.

He turned down USC last year.

maybe, but 2 years from now it will be. not too long to go.

michigan doesn't have much competition though. and they have first class facilities, first class tradition, and a first class education. no reason michigan shouldn't win 10 games every year.

Southern Cal should be on that list....oversight on my part.

FSU is on the rise again, but they can't afford to take their band to road games because they're still paying Jeff Bowden's 500K buyout.

Michigan is looking up at Ohio State and I think also Penn State in terms of athletic buget. Michigan only recently upgraded their facilities to compete with those guys. And for all of Michigan's tradition, they have 1/2 a national title to show for it since 1950.

Nebraska is a top national gig imo. The lack of nearby blue chip recruits is a drawback, but they have great fan support and an athletic department that generates revenue and competes for national titles across the board, not just football.
