RUMOR: Texas Stays In The Big XII

I do not know, and I am not saying that they could. I was just stating that I believe Texas only cares about doing what is best for them over waiting to make A&M the scapegoat.

Then why all of the fence sitting? Everything is on the table, it's rather obvious they are putting pressure on A&M to follow them.

because they are meeting right now to see what kind of deal they can get.. if the $$ isn't there then they will walk. With or without A&M.

That doesn't explain the pressure they're putting on A&M to play ball their way though. What I'm saying is if this were simply a case of Texas looking out for Texas why would any other choice A&M made to the contrary matter? Texas is putting pressure on A&M for a reason.

1. Texas does not want the SEC in Texas
2. Texas does not want people in Texas watching SEC football on TV.
3. Texas does not want any Texas kids playing for SEC schools

TAMU to SEC is a step towards all of this, a small one.

OU to the SEC would kill any hopes of the Big 12 surviving...If OU doesn't want to go to the PAC, Texas has to keep the BIG 12 or they have nothing.

Has there ever been more proof of Texas' power than this result? Only one school has everything they want, which includes cornering rivals.

I think it should read...

Has there ever been more proof of the SEC's power

no kidding - isn't texas having to go back to the idea of keeping the big 12 together because they fear aTm and OU will stand up to them? seems like their power is being undermined by this episode because they haven't been able to tell the others exactly what to do

Orangebloods reports that Texas, OU and TAMU would recieve 20 Million from TV revenue, the rest would get between 14 and 17. This is if they hold the Big 12 together. No mention of what network would pay.

validate the teasips decision to kill the big 12. A&M is the second most important program in texas. A&M also makes it MUCH easier to organize a southern division of the Pac 10, and would mean one more close game for the new members--important. Really, if four big 12 teams bolt for the pac 10, the pac 10 almost because two separate 8-team conferences.

We should all be PROUD of the Aggies for having the Rocks to tell the teasips to bugger off in a way the sooners won't. It's obvious that oklahoma is a better fit with the SEC than the PAC 10 generally, but that argument isn't quite so strong if four/five teams from the same big 12 region switch conferences as they don't have to no. california and washington state as much. All of this realignment is BS, if you ask me. It does nothing to improve football: It's just a bunch of schools manuevering in the hope of making $5 million more a year.

There's a rumor that ESPN may reup their deal with the conference.

Not bad.

Maybe SEC schools will start defecting to the Big 12 now.

Well I'd like to see which network wants to pay that kind of money to a 10 team league. The inequity that caused this in the Big 12 is what started all of this, so it could happen again.

If ESPN is behind new TV deal, they're protecting Big 12 in effort to keep Pac 16 from starting network with Fox. Dirty move.

They'd be losing money on weaker TV package to avoid letting a competitor make money. Huge conflict. Only way $ get to those numbers.

If it isn't ESPN, who has top contract through 2016 with Big 12, I have no idea how that money is possible.

They'll add two teams.

The Big XII can't be a ten team league.

It would be fantastic if the Pac 314159 gets blocked by ESPN. Let's not pretend that either side has the interest of the fan at heart.

ESPN better act now because if the Comcast-NBCU comes through, then Versus may get a makeover and may look at one of these deals.

Isn't that the sort of thing that got the Big XII in this mess to begin with?

It has to be ESPN. They already have a deal with the B12 through 2016. The B12 just can't opt out of that for another network.

I can live with being the "escape goat".

We all damn well know who is to blame in all this.

Yes, exactly, they are sweetening the deal for OU and A&M, but otherwise it's the same. WHEN Texas does their TV network, it won't be as sweet for them. All it would take Is OU to come on board with TAMU to the SEC and Texas is left holding the bag, an empty one.

Honestly, after spending time on the sips board, not for all the money on earth would I want them in the SEC.
