Rumors The Holly Warlick era may be coming to an end SOON.

Amb3096: i agree it`s 100% Holly's fault the reason i say that is because she refuse to hold players account for there awful play. As for Jordan Horston let`s wait and see, I really think our lack of post play is big part of this free fall. I watched the Maryland Penn St game and at times Shakira Austin 6-5 made it very difficult for Penn St at the end off the game.

I knew coming into the season that losing Mercedes was really gonna hurt this year, but it seemed that Mercedes had been thrown under the bus by so many posters who thought Cheridene would be an upgrade. The lack of inside presence turned them into a "live by the jumpshots, die by the jumpshots" team. When they're hitting, great. When they're not, they have no backup. A decent coach can work around this limitation, but it's clear that Holly has no adjustment.

The question remains unanswered.
I'll rephrase; In your opinion, is it more likely or less likely, that Holly gets this team "turned around" ?

A team like this will follow its leaders.

We get Meme, Cheridene, Evina and Rennia focused and the rest will follow suit.
I think that will inevitably happen because of their pedigrees.
Coaching,
is another thing.

Right now in my assessment we've got an assistant leading assistants. CHW has to think like a HC and to me hasn't yet. The team, org, game, everything depends on her. She can't "not know"....That DOES NOT mean that she has to take the mantle on everything...But she has to take the mantle her primary duties and any of the parts of the processes that aren't getting done and really look at herself and if she might be why...And sometimes the answer isn't getting closer to the area of the problem.....sometimes it is backing off so the problem or her staff has a chance to work itself out.

I feel this past run were two things: players losing confidence and coaches letting their confidence fail. Players have to have confidence in themselves, but equally, they have to have confidence that the coaching will solve the problems, they can't on the floor.

Time out is the first step.
Quit waiting until a timeout is an emergency and start using it as a tool.

9 times out of 10 a couple of timeouts will decide the end of the game...But only in the rarest instance will 3-4 be needed to decide an outcome...Use the first two, if needed, for "game"

Sorry, I have dodged you question:

If she tries to do it all, she will not.

If she will take those film watching sessions and dedicate a few to not watching the game as much as watching the bench and admits there is room for suggestion/consideration/help,,,She can turn those spurts into end-runs.

Not yet

It is very easy to blame the coach for the downward spiral that the team seems to be on. Rennia wants to play under the radar as she is not one to carry a team emotionally or skillfully. She has the ability but not the desire. This is not a Holly problem. There are only 2 players willing to give their all on defense. The freshmen are good and playing but you cannot consistently depend on a freshmen, unless they are 1st team All Americans. Not to say that they will never reach that level but it will take development. Meme is a role player she bleeds orange but is not a leader, or a player to carry a team, remember you will “Live or die by the jump shot”. The decline is because the team cannot defend the middle. Key will get a limo to school because we need the low post skill she has. We have a weak front line and teams are exposing this flaw. It puts to much pressure on shooters when there is no middle. Effort is low because confidence is low. I like Holly but she cannot play D, value the ball, shot free throws, make layups, box out or play with intensity and that is what we are not doing. I know most want to fire Holly I don’t, Holly has high morals and loves the young women she coaches, because of this she will continue to recruit at a high level. But this team lacks ❤️. I believe with a couple of parts that we are missing are coming next season we will be a final four team.
Holly is the common denominator. Players come and go, results are not just staying the same, but are getting worse. Yet it's always "wait until Holly gets X player in next year and things will turn around". It won't turn around. It will continue to sink.

Compare what Barnes has done with no top 100 recruits in a more competitive sport to what Hollyhas done with many top recruits.

Love the Lady Vols tradition, place as one of the most recognized brands in college sports? Then you must face facts and realize that a change has to be made.

I agree and i like C.Green if we had a post presence Green would have big numbers at the 4 because she hits the glass and get a lot of put backs. And if you look at next year roster who plays the 4 ?

Green isn't even an ideal 4 because she has no face up game and can't really attack off the dribble. She's an undersized 5 with not much length. She's basically a lesser version of Bashaara Graves, who at least could consistently shoot the 15-footer.

I assume next year, Collins starts at the 4 and Kushkituah at the 5? That's not the worst lineup, but still not one that can consistently manufacture points against above average teams.

How about we announce that Holly is resigning on Jan 31.

Coach Phil can coach out the rest of the season. Bet he knows more inbounds plays than Holly.

You are correct none can consistently manufacture points at that position. First we will need to know if Kushkituah knee will require any kind of surgery ?

Lol.
Thank you for your "response"
I can only conclude that you purposefully avoided answering the question, again.
If you don't want to answer, that's fine with me. I think if you just said "It's none of your business" or "no comment" or "I'd rather not say" it would have saved both of us some time.
Your response only required a yes, I think Holly will turn it around this year or a no, I don't think Holly will turn it around this year.
I was just asking for your opinion. No need for obfuscation.

Good word. She will either accept help and turn this season around are not accept help and everybody else will have to turn this season around

It's easy to blame Holly because Holly is the blame. Blaming the players has always been the excuse for the Lady Vols under Holly. We know better now.
This program under Holly has and had some of the top tier high school players to come under her tenure, with much disappointment towards their development and final four aspirations. Sure Holly has a winning record each year , but the goal and bars set is always the natty. Why run the race if you only want to come in third? What boxer wants to get knocked out in the fourth round , still without the belt around his waist?
Time to cut ties with descending results and it begins with Warlick.
No one will blame the deckhands on the Titanic on steering the ship into a iceberg holocaust, it's the captain who's at the helm.
Deny putting the blame on the captain just point me to where they keep the life preservers.
Or rafts, this water is too cold for me to thread in.

As someone who has been critical of Holly's coaching from the onset (continuing an outdated offense from the end of the Pat era), I still think everyone should take a deep breath and refrain from the personal insults. She's devoted her college and professional career to TN and been an integral part of 8 NC. All the talk of greed, etc. is probably way off-base; she probably has convinced herself that she has the coaching tools to get the job done. The problem is that most of us are viewing things quite differently and are looking at a plethora of problems. It's not just about wins and losses; it's everything...the poor communication skills, inability to make in-game adjustments, lack of player discipline, transfers & dismissals, lack of player effort, one-note offense, not taking public personal responsibility, etc. To cite the off-used phrase, it appears that she's been in over her head almost from the start...and her early success was built upon Pat's recruits and ability to out-talent other teams.

Publicly flogging Holly won't do any good other than venting frustration. The pressure ought to be put on the AD department, not on Holly.

It appears that the best-case scenario would be for a semi-respectable finish with no defections (or mutinies), followed by a heart-to-heart between Phil and Holly. Holly has been given enough time to produce with the available talent, and it's time to make a change. Happens all the time in many sports, even only a few years removed from championships, World Series, etc.

Holly could win back a lot of good will (if she comes to the realization that it's unlikely that UT will ever reach another championship game under her leadership...assuming that's her goal for the program) by just making an honest press announcement that she's stepping down for the good of the program. She doesn't have to self-flagellate...she can just acknowledge that her expectations for the program haven't come to pass and that she thinks that a fresh start is best at this time. No shame in that, and she can say that she did her best and loves the program. It's happened to other coaches, and fans have gotten over the disappointing aspects of their tenures. Heck, Phil wasn't happy at being forced out, either, but he's been welcomed back home and isn't blamed for running the fb program into the ground.

I wish the change had been made a couple of years ago, but the record didn't warrant it. But I'm a little concerned about Holly's mental well-being if this downward spiral continues with the media scrutiny and other teams piling on. We can call for a change without crucifying her personally with the lowest insults.
And she has been paid rather well

Seems like she’s already embarrassed the university beyond pale. But you might be right, the powers that be may decide to let her contract expire. Now that would hurt recruiting.

No matter what you "seem" about it, something very profound means more than losing games. And no, I doubt they let her contract expire. They will find some reason to justify keeping her, and extending her again. Women's BB doesn't rake in enough money for them to justify the expense, and they don't want the "fallout" of firing her.

Well, there will be no ambiguity. 5 straight conference losses and likely a blow-out at ND. The end is very near.

That is hard to quantify. It's true that women's basketball has never generated a dime of revenue for this university, even during it's heyday in the mid to late 90's, but we don't know how many of the donations made to the university were done out of support for the women's basketball program and respect for Pat Summitt. This university has never had a better ambassador, that's for sure. And give me a break. There is relatively little extra expense in firing a coach who makes an annual salary of less than $700,000. We are now paying an assistant football coach (OC Jim Chaney) well over twice that much. Also, there would not be any "fallout" from firing a coach, who after 7 seasons, is still clearly underachieving. If a move isn't made (and it is highly unlikely that her contract will be extended again, that is simply impossible to justify) it will be because personal friendships are overriding everything else, including good judgment.
