Rumors The Holly Warlick era may be coming to an end SOON.

Some people simply don't get it, if you want 5 star talent wasted then keep Holly, if you want to see change you need to make a move. For seven years we have all start off excited at the beginning of the season before we are all left flat wondering what in the hell happened. Holly has had her chances with 20 plus 5 stars for 7 years and has never been able to develop players to play up to their potential. It is time for a change.
yes - even Butch Jones didn't get 7 years - she should be canned now

It is very easy to blame the coach for the downward spiral that the team seems to be on. Rennia wants to play under the radar as she is not one to carry a team emotionally or skillfully. She has the ability but not the desire. This is not a Holly problem. There are only 2 players willing to give their all on defense. The freshmen are good and playing but you cannot consistently depend on a freshmen, unless they are 1st team All Americans. Not to say that they will never reach that level but it will take development. Meme is a role player she bleeds orange but is not a leader, or a player to carry a team, remember you will “Live or die by the jump shot”. The decline is because the team cannot defend the middle. Key will get a limo to school because we need the low post skill she has. We have a weak front line and teams are exposing this flaw. It puts to much pressure on shooters when there is no middle. Effort is low because confidence is low. I like Holly but she cannot play D, value the ball, shot free throws, make layups, box out or play with intensity and that is what we are not doing. I know most want to fire Holly I don’t, Holly has high morals and loves the young women she coaches, because of this she will continue to recruit at a high level. But this team lacks ❤️. I believe with a couple of parts that we are missing are coming next season we will be a final four team.
A competent head coach will teach the LVs to do the things that you say they are not doing.

As someone who has been critical of Holly's coaching from the onset (continuing an outdated offense from the end of the Pat era), I still think everyone should take a deep breath and refrain from the personal insults. She's devoted her college and professional career to TN and been an integral part of 8 NC. All the talk of greed, etc. is probably way off-base; she probably has convinced herself that she has the coaching tools to get the job done. The problem is that most of us are viewing things quite differently and are looking at a plethora of problems. It's not just about wins and losses; it's everything...the poor communication skills, inability to make in-game adjustments, lack of player discipline, transfers & dismissals, lack of player effort, one-note offense, not taking public personal responsibility, etc. To cite the off-used phrase, it appears that she's been in over her head almost from the start...and her early success was built upon Pat's recruits and ability to out-talent other teams.

Publicly flogging Holly won't do any good other than venting frustration. The pressure ought to be put on the AD department, not on Holly.

It appears that the best-case scenario would be for a semi-respectable finish with no defections (or mutinies), followed by a heart-to-heart between Phil and Holly. Holly has been given enough time to produce with the available talent, and it's time to make a change. Happens all the time in many sports, even only a few years removed from championships, World Series, etc.

Holly could win back a lot of good will (if she comes to the realization that it's unlikely that UT will ever reach another championship game under her leadership...assuming that's her goal for the program) by just making an honest press announcement that she's stepping down for the good of the program. She doesn't have to self-flagellate...she can just acknowledge that her expectations for the program haven't come to pass and that she thinks that a fresh start is best at this time. No shame in that, and she can say that she did her best and loves the program. It's happened to other coaches, and fans have gotten over the disappointing aspects of their tenures. Heck, Phil wasn't happy at being forced out, either, but he's been welcomed back home and isn't blamed for running the fb program into the ground.

I wish the change had been made a couple of years ago, but the record didn't warrant it. But I'm a little concerned about Holly's mental well-being if this downward spiral continues with the media scrutiny and other teams piling on. We can call for a change without crucifying her personally with the lowest insults.

In a nutshell.
I think the nut is still in it

Wow it is the fault of the players? Rennias fault.... The HC has TOTAL CONTROL of what happens in program.... if as you say she has not the desire.... she deserves to be ON THE BENCH

It is past time that Holly should go! I've said this since last year and have been called every name in the book by some delusional fans. However, I strongly agree that the right thing to do, at this point, is for Holly to show some class and step down soon. The longer she stays the more divided the fan base becomes. Holly tried and failed to fill PS shoes, nothing to be ashamed of there.

On the other hand, I'd she does not step down soon my respect for her will vanish.

If that happened one season, I would give Holly the beneft of a doubt. This is the 4th year in a row that you're copying and pasting this and just switching out player names.

It is 100% Holly's fault. She is the constant in these subpar results...unless you want to pin all the blame on Meme, as has been done to Diamond. And Mercedes. And Jaime. If now Rennia, it seems (I called that she would be the scapegoat for Holly defenders at the end of last season). And then Jordan will be blamed for the next four years if Tennessee continues to underachieve with Holly at the helm.

She simply cannot coach, and needs to be shown the door ASAP.

The delusion is strong with this one. Blaming the players...SMH. So I guess EVERY year when new players join the team its their fault, too? That’s weird, seeing as though Rennia wasn’t here before last year. So you mean to tell me that it has been the players’ faults these whole 7 years? If that’s the case, she STILL needs to be fired for signing players who lack ❤️ as you put it. The only common denominator is Holly and her super sub-standard coaching skills.

You’re right...Holly can’t play D, shoot, etc., but its her job to make sure everyone does that. Players feel more confident when they know exactly what to do at all times. Iin a well-run offense, players don’t have to try to figure out what to do. They won’t look lost because a good offensive system will efficient and run like a well-oiled machine. Running that stupid weave at the top of the key and a watered down version of Calipari’s “dribble drive” offense wasn’t working for Holly 7 years ago and its not working now.

Interesting.

Might seem I am going out on a limb, but my official prediction is....Not gonna happen! Unless Holly does something very profound that embarrasses the University beyond words, she won't be fired. Based solely on my estimation of the competence of those in power.

^ Sadly, likely to be true. Fans can boycott games, send letters & emails to AD, but not much else.

Re: "not Holly's fault"...that shouldn't be debated.

Coaches can't have it both ways. You get credit for wins, you take blame for losses. That's how it works. That's why you get paif $700,000 annually. Besides, who recruited these players if you're going to try that excuse.

One off-year can be chalked up to injuries, youth, unexpected transfer or last-minute decommitment, competition being unusually super-strong, something. It's an anomaly.

An extended decline is a pattern that requires correction. Waiting just prolongs the recovery and makes it more difficult. And the change starts at the top.

yes - even Butch Jones didn't get 7 years - she should be canned now

What ppl never understand is that Holly constantly scheduling weak teams to make her look good. I've never seen a lady schedule with almost 20 schedule weak teams. Funny is that it didn't work for her this time because those weak teams exposed her by winning her team.

If "you cannot consistently depend on freshmen, unless they are 1st team All Americans" then you must believe that the "couple of parts that we are missing are coming next year" will be 1st team AA's.
Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to produce the consistent results that would take us to the final four.
Which leads me to the following question.
In the last 10 years, how many freshman made 1st team AA ?
It seems to me that you've resorted to wishful thinking rather than careful analysis.

If it's players, they have to turn themselves around...If it's coaching, they wil be the ones who mmake it happen..A simple hypothesis with an even simpler question, for an answer...
Can a coach (on the bench or standing) turn this thing around? Now!
or
Can a player (starter or not) inspire this team?

I say yes.
To both

I say yes.
I would agree that a coach, Holly included, CAN "turn this thing around. But I don't think she WILL turn it around.
That's the difference between possibility (can she, no matter how small a chance) and probability.
As far as another coach having the desired effect on the team, it depends on who it is.
Do you know of an available coach who you could say, with confidence, would be capable of taking next year's team to the final four ?
Who's your second choice ?

The only available coach, is locked up at that position now.
Now if she will have the confidence to use the weapons (players, staff, colleagues) around her

That happens
And my second choice is the same as my first

The question remains unanswered.
I'll rephrase; In your opinion, is it more likely or less likely, that Holly gets this team "turned around" ?

What will Horston do?

How many players Transfer?
My feeling is players are going to transfer whether she stays or goes. Like her or not players do not like to lose. i remember Horston referencing Pat and the program in her announcement video and saying she felt a connection with the current players.
As for Holly I hope they let her finish the year so there will be no question she had every opportunity.

Amb3096: i agree it`s 100% Holly's fault the reason i say that is because she refuse to hold players account for there awful play. As for Jordan Horston let`s wait and see, I really think our lack of post play is big part of this free fall. I watched the Maryland Penn St game and at times Shakira Austin 6-5 made it very difficult for Penn St at the end off the game.

Seems like she’s already embarrassed the university beyond pale. But you might be right, the powers that be may decide to let her contract expire. Now that would hurt recruiting.
