Rupp Arena

I would build a new one. Make it just for basketball. Put the seats close to the floor. Give the students great seats, etc. Make it complete hell for visiting teams to play there.

I wished Tennessee would have done this when they built their new arena.

Which one is big brother and which one is little brother?

Louisville has always been affectionately referred to as "little brother" by the UK fan base. As if to say, "Awww, isn't that cute, you have a basketball program." Pisses off UL fans mainly, which is why most consider it so much fun.

Im to young to have memories from memorial. But my parents agreed with you. They love the old place and still try to go there for "Uk hoops" games.

I agreed with you. Why would UT fans care?

Im not complaining. But this thread wasn't supposed to be a hate thread.

Then don't post in this thread? It's in the appropriate forum.

If you don't like Kentucky, I can totally understand why. Our crappy football team finally beat your crappy team this season. That would definitely put me on edge.

I'm nowhere near on edge. It has to do more with your scumbag BB coach

Lexington likes to think they are "big brother"

It is really interesting. U of L will never come close to matching UK's popularity in the state. They are the little brother of basketball programs and always will be. However, Louisville is a the largest metropolitan city in the state. Lexington will never compete for that title as a city unless they annex four surrounding counties.

Both parties have a little envy that plays into the equation.

Is Louisville really three times bigger than Lexington? (too lazy to look up)

That would be like Knoxville versus Memphis . . . if Nashville weren't in the equation . . . and the cities were much closer to one another.

Maybe closer to 2 1/2. But it is much larger than Lex would like to pretend it is.

I do not think that the population size really has much to do with the hate. Most people that live in Lexington understand it was not and is not supposed to be a metropolis.

I think a lot of the hate came from the 80s and 90s. We started playing them a lot and both programs had established themselves as "basketball" schools.

Oh yeah, and Pitino.

Yes, it is simply a sports program reference as to who dominates the state. Arguing that Lexington as a city is comparable to Louisville is dumb.

That being said, Lexington is a much nicer place to live in overall IMO.

I dont need it repeated :p

Call me in 20 years and we'll see if Cal did anything wrong here.

A. He won't be there for more than 5-7 more years tops
B. He doesn't have to at Kentucky. It's the first place he's coached where the program sells itself, regardless of the coach

A. I already know how long he will be here, just using 20 as an example.
B. Why thankyou...

I don't think Louisville built their new arena for just the university. That city is still in the hopes of potentially luring an NBA team in the future (doubtful) and the city needed a new arena for hosting events. Maybe I'm wrong. I do remember how they actively pursued the Grizzlies before they moved to Memphis.

There is a committee to lure a NBA team to Louisville. HOWEVER, it will not be at the Yum Center. The Sacramento Kings flirted with Louisville about a year ago and backed out when they realized that they were not going to be able to play in the Yum Center. UofL has it legally tied up to where they will be the only bball team playing in that arena. The option for the Kings was to renovate Freedom Hall.
