I know that it is a longhot but there is smoke out there that if he loses today the pressure will be so great that it would almost be unbearable.... This is not a game but a way of life, and OSU and it's monster fanbase are one of the most, if not the most critical in CFB. The Aggie rumors are interesting

It’s quite likely a long shot.

I can't imagine anyone leaving OSU for A&M. If the pressure is getting to him there he is unlikely to find much relief in the SEC. A&M had sky high expectations not very long ago. They still have tons of talent on paper. They are even less likely to be patient with Texes coming into the conference. It sure sounds like a bad career move.

Dennis Franchione left Bama for aTm. Maybe Day doesn’t want to become Cooper 2.0 . I doubt he would win at higher percentage at aTm though. Actually I guarantee he wouldn’t .

Franchione was about to have to deal with sanctions at Bama. Besides who could blame anyone for wanting to leave that state?

Say what you want about OSU(I despise them personally). But they are a blue blood. A&M is a downgrade. I guess they could back the Brinks truck up. But OSU can match them if the want and stuff gonna be tight at A&M for a minute.

Ahh yeah. Remember those great teams Fulmer had and couldn't beat Florida.

I think the question is whether they want to back the brinks truck up or not. Ohio State is about to have 3 more good coaches enter the league, which means they’ll actually have more than a 1 game season. Same for Michigan. If they lose today, Day is going to have another long offseason. He may want to get out from under the shadow of Urban. Who knows ? I agree that it would be a huge step back.

I strongly suspect the Ryan Day noise is his agent chumming the waters for a contract boost.
They would have to increase his salary by a lot to interest him, and even then I don't see how it would.

The only thing that would make it interesting is if OSU doesn't offer to increase his salary based on A&M's online hints of him being their target. Could see his agent get dropped.

Is Trace Armstrong still his agent? He did great work for clients Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly.
and I did not foresee Brian Kelly's move to Baton Rouge, so who knows, really.

Not sure who is agent is, but I think it would be a bad move publicly if Day tried to leverage a raise after losing to Michigan 3 straight years, including 1 with an interim coaching for Michigan.

Do agents ever stop jockeying for their clients?

The flip side of looking infallible managing an all-star roster is not everyone has .900 winpct even with rosters built with blue chips 2-3 deep.

I suspect A&M settles for a smaller fish. Paying Jimbo's buyout is tougher for them than most think.
But the tOSU admin might call team Day's bluff. If A&M is interested and the Buckeyes don't give him the ceremonial raise/extension that situation usually infers, all bets are off and College Station becomes interesting for a few weeks.

The pressure at OSU is far worse. This is a guy with a winning percentage over 88% who’s considered on the hotseat after going 11-1. A&M plays a tougher schedule, sure, but that also means you have multiple chances to prove yourself. In the minds of the fanbase, OSU plays a one-game season every year, and to them, he’s 0-3 over the last three seasons. Give those three Buckeye teams A&M’s schedule and they’re probably 11-1 or 12-0 every year, 9-3 at absolute worst, and the Aggie faithful are in bliss.

Day isn't on the hot seat with the people that matter (the AD, admin, etc.). The AD is retiring next year though.

To your point though, that is a wild position to be in. A not insignificant minority of that fanbase thinks he stinks.
