Saban of Year "ZERO" Says SHHHHHHHH!

Were those SEC conference titles? And to answer your question: no. That doesn't make him a loser. But leaving Peterman in series after series when it was obvious to anyone with eyeballs that he needed to be benched and THEN sending him back out for one more AFTER breaking his hand might.
Not setting some redshirts ablaze next week WILL make him a loser in my book. He is barely hanging on to "competent" status after today's fiasco

I question your competence after that statement......let me know how your players respond to your coaching next week.....wait...oh know...you'll have to stick being message board coach....

Nothing marks a great coach like sacrificing the future with the blind hope that it might make things a little better in a mostly irrelevant year.

Nothing marks an incompetent one like throwing away any year or any game. And if the freshmen truly are "the future" like you say, they need to be taking their lumps NOW.

Not entirely true. I never said anything about Tennessee struggling today. And the Vols actually played well in the first half. After that touchdown to start the third we let up. Let's hope it's a good teaching opportunity; and luckily it didn't cost is a win.

level headed response

To all of those who are "sick" of the ULM game being brough it up, you only have yourselves to blame. You are the ones who act like it is an unforgivable sin for a team to struggle with a lower tier opponent. We have no choice but to put you in your place with little things like facts. Bringing up unrelated occurrences (like the Bama-UT game) to the direct subject at hand (games against mid-majors) does not help your cause.

Youre the idiot who made a thread about it. In Saban's 2nd year, he won 10 games, played in the SEC championship game and Sugar Bowl. So that is what we should expect next year. Thanks, got it.

Saban inherited a much better roster left by the 2 classes before his first year.

Shula was a poor coach but he was much better at stocking the shelf. I hoped Dooley could at least accomplish this but 2012 and 2013 classes were atrocious for Dooley. Guys who should be Sophomores now aren't here. 1 DB, 1 LB, 2 DT and zero OL was what that 2012 class yielded.

What do you have against winning?

What does that have to do with anything? It's a high risk/low reward scenario in the immediate term. And if they're good enough to make a difference in 2013, they're good enough to make even more of a difference in 2017.

I wish everybody would quit comparing every new coach we bring in to Nick Saban! There is only 1 Nick Saban. This game feels like a loss to me. We are losing the fans (empty stadium today) and are darn close to losing the players again this year. How can you continue to refuse to play the freshman. There is no legit excuse not to.

I thought the players had bought into Butch's coaching...you know "Butch Gets It".

Wouldn't that include believing in themselves?

This team looks no more disciplined than the 2012 team. I know the cupboard is bare, but that's when the coaches have to coach to their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. They haven't done this as a team.?

How do you know this? There are a lot of weaknesses on this team. It's going to take more than coaching for this team to improve. This team has had a losers mentality for the last four years. Hell the fan base has a losers mentality. It going to take longer than 10 months to fix.

You could be right, but personally I just prefer to let the season play out before I start screaming for coordinators to be fired. The Vols are 3-2, as expected.

I'm a fan of Jancek and he's done everything I thought he would in terms of creating turnovers, but Mike is still questionable. You can't really fire a coord. when your QB can't execute the offense. I'm torn between liking and not liking this offense, but I think another year is in store for all these coaches. We need some stability anyways. I'd also like to make sure Thig and Azzi are well payed and locked down here for many more years to come as both have killed it recruiting, and both are very good coaches. What's your thoughts Freak on the offense and defense as of right now?

Why, because you say so? I don't want my coach making reckless, future endangering decisions with the blind hope that it would make the team just a little better this year. Emphasis on the word "blind".

Talent or no talent. My beef is with the in game decisions.

And which decisions would you be talking about? I have issues with execution of the players but this team was obviously prepared to play or they would not have jumped out to the substantial lead. (please don't bring up the first drive, those types of anomoly in play happen all the time). UT needs pass rushers off the edge so that we can get the defense off the field after 3rd and long. We need that as much as we need quarterback play imo.

We are lacking a few crucial pieces of the puzzle but I feel that overall the team is playing better in many areas.

Fire away! I'm ready to take my hits because I'm not in meltdown and can find some positives from todays game.:peace2:

Where is the "high risk" you speak of? It's not complicated. They probably won't make a difference this year. But they will get much needed experience for NEXT year and beyond. They will have to be thrown into the fire eventually. Why not now when their rookie mistakes are being made currently by a Junior?

The high risk comes if the team suddenly doesn't have a QB for 2017, when there's a pretty good chance of them competing for much more than they are now.

I still fail to see why you are so concerned about TWENTY SEVENTEEN. What about 2013, 2014, 2015, or 2016? You just going to forfeit those seasons so you might make a run for the east when Dillon Bates is a Sr? Wow. I don't mind a good debate with an able opponent, but I won't continue this debate if that's the origin of your "logic."

Were you not on this site from the time Butch was hired throughout the off-season? This place was buzzing. Butch Gets It, and the losing culture was gone.

The only different in this year than last year, so far, are the names of the head coaches. Everything else pretty much looks the same.
