We had a snow day here in the Albany area recently when we had 30 inches of snow. It wasn't so much because of the amount of snow but because of the rate -- it wasn't possible to keep up with the plows as it snowed throughout the day. Next day everything was clear and schools were open.Yeah, I grew up in Rochester, NY and we almost never closed school, even with a few feet of snow. But, the difference is that they have a massive fleet of plows that would run continuously and clear every road. It doesn't make sense to budget for that in Knoxville and the hills add to our woes.
On the other hand, Knox county schools closing for wind last Friday was ridiculous.
I was still riding that high from beating them here with that Corey Allen game winner so it didn’t hit me hard. We had a trash team except Houston and beat them at their best at least 1 time. I was satisfied by embarrassing them. That was at Rupp in the SECT (40-101 debacle) and the blizzard hit Knoxville just after the game ended. And didn’t stop for a day or 2.
In my understanding, Hamilton County scheduled 9 inclement weather days into the school year. As they used none until Friday, I took it as they were looking for an excuse to use one. Wouldn’t surprise me if 4 more were used this week if the predicted cold sets in.Yeah, I grew up in Rochester, NY and we almost never closed school, even with a few feet of snow. Anything is possible I guess, but I don’t think that’s a safe assumption. As long as it’s deemed safe for UF to land at the airport, the game will be played. Don’t see the state stepping in to postpone the game over a few inches of snow.
I thought the same thing as far as calling out for wind here in Sullivan County until I had to go to a doctors appointment and help some guys get a tree that had blown over out of the road. I then later found out there were quite a few power lines down.In my understanding, Hamilton County scheduled 9 inclement weather days into the school year. No excuses. You can't expect the blue hairs to venture forth in such weather. They could break another hip. Nope, it's up to the students to carry the load and give the team the home court advantage tomorrow. Don't let us down!!I’m
This.
Classes don’t begin until 22nd or 23rd, so majority of students still off campus. My son went back a few days ago to start his p/t job prior to classes. I don’t think the dorms are open yet.
