Sam Montgomery

Anyone think this kid can turn into a Adalius Thomas type mold? Kid seem's fast enough to not only play DL but play LB at time's.

Not in a Tampa 2. A LB that can put his hand on the ground is better suited to a 3-4 type D. Besides, Adalius Thomas is a freak. He once played 5 different positions in one game. Montgomery may be special, but I think his future is at end in the Tampa 2. He does have the speed though and who knows what kind of tricks Monte might pull out of the hat.

LSU, for its part, appeared to be hoping that Defensive End Sam Montgomery from South Carolina would fill out this class's needs at defensive end. Montgomery is a very solid pass-rushing specialist, the kind of player the team lacks among young players.

LSU got more interested. We had one defensive end committed to the 2009 class, Texas's Michael Brockers, and we were still looking at Sam Montgomery to take the other spot, as he is an outstanding prospect and a rare and valuable pass-rushing specialist. Logan got more love, but he still wasn't at the top of our board.

Well, the LSU coaches must have decided either that Montgomery was unlikely to leave the Carolinas (as has been widely expected to be the case) or they decided they can afford to take 3 defensive ends in this class, as they finally made a full 2009 offer to Logan during his official visit. According to Dandy Don, he accepted it and will be a part of this 2009 class.

one LSU poster's opinion

thanks Rex...maybe LSU will cool on Montgomery now and leave the door open for Monte and Reeves to impress this weekend.

Apextiger, under another name?

No, I am still Apex ( I said I left, but I came back, because it's just too fun around here :) )

I don't think LSU gets Montgomery (at one time I was fairly confident).. After his visit, it has been very quiet on him, like nothing at all ...I think we are out of it for him..

Some are saying UNC now? I think UT has a good shot, distance is supposedly an issue/concern for him...

BTW: have you heard officially or not if Trent Richardson decommitted from Bama? That's the latest scoop, but is not confirmed yet

After the way he raved about his FL visit, I wouldnt be too surprised.

Sam and his family consider his college choice as a major decision, no one will be taken lightly. He will not visit Oregon, Coach Pellum was informed today that although he considers it a great program he feels that it is not the place for him. He pefers to be honest and not waste a school's time and money by taking a free trip. As NSD grows closer the field will be narrowed.
The Montgomery's are quiet about their visit to LSU only because they choose to be and have become very guarded lately due to negative recruiting practices. But his Mom did relate to me
1. The spicey food served is an acquired taste and
2. That she, the Davenports, and Brick Haley kept everyone on the bus rolling with laughter during the visit.

When was Sam gonna visit Oregon??? I didn't even think they were even close to his short list?

He was gonna visit Oregon Wednesday and Thursday and come to us over the weekend, I think.

I'm hearing a lot about UNC with him though.

USC head coach Steve Spurrier made his in person visit with DE Sam Montgomery (6-5 240) of Greenwood Monday. Spurrier and assistant coach Brad Lawing met with Montgomery at the school and later sat down with his mother at her office. "That was my first opportunity to meet coach Spurrier," Mrs. Montgomery said. "He was telling me about himself and his position with Carolina football. I had never gotten his take on everything." There are no plans for Montgomery to squeeze in a final unofficial visit to USC or Clemson Mrs. Montgomery said. "We have seen and heard everything there is to be seen and heard." She said she talked Monday night with Clemson recruiters Chris Rumph and Kevin Steele. "Both still have a chance," she said of the Gamecocks and Tigers. Montgomery will take an official visit to Oregon Tuesday thru Thursday, and Friday thru Sunday he will be at Tennessee. He also has visited Michigan, North Carolina and LSU. He plans to reveal his choice on ESPN on National Signing Day around 10:00 or 10:30 in the morning.

there is now a rumor going around that he has informed the Oregon coaches that he's not going to visit
