Sam Pendleton signs with UT - OL transfer from ND

Struggled a bit with penalties? He'll fit right in.
If Beard keeps getting 1 jump a game to start us 1st & 15,and we add one with that tendency, just hope we can get them disciplined before we go to Bama & the Swamp where noise level will be out the roof. Starting out behind the chains is the recipe to stop Heupel's O.

When a team lines up there are 2 guards. Also ND is deep at Oline... here is their depth chart from the playoffs. Pendleton was listed as backup center which might be something people are sleeping on. They have one dude in their 2 deep under 310 and pendleton was the only one under 6'5. Maybe we are bringing him in for insurance at not only guard but center also?

Cogan and Spindler are both in the portal.

We better go into 25 with 9 new transfers that can all start. If we don’t we won’t compete.
Other than maybe a CB if McCoy isn't ready, they aren't going with any new transfers on defense. Who on defense do you want from the portal that can come in and replace a starter? There aren't 9 positions on offense that need to be replaced. You aren't going to find any starters in the spring portal, that will be all players not getting playing time at their Schools. Go look at the portal list and tell us who is still out there that can come in and start for UT?

I am glad we got this guy but the fact we needed to dip into the portal for OL is concerning. I thought that Tennessee had recruited OL pretty darn well the past 3 years but the guys we recruiting have not stepped up. I am just a fan with no inside knowledge of the program and I do not know what the problem is, but it needs to be fixed.

Recruit for talent and develop then dip into the portal for needs. Second part of that was covered, staff needs to get better with the first part.

I don’t think we have started an offensive lineman recruited by this staff even 1 game. Am I right? I know it takes time for Offensive Lineman to develop, but that doesn’t seem right.

We need a few fights and girlfriends sleeping with teammates. We aren’t gonna be good next year

First two classes were under the PRUITT CLOUD and OL was pretty limited with several developmental sized guys, like 1 large blue chip guys per class. last two classes much better and this is the year we can actually judge them after playing behind portal guys. A few of the early reaches didn’t and have already hit the road.

Bet Coach is hoping the HS development cycle won’t need annual portal support going forward.

So if Pendleton and moe come in and immediately start what does that day about glen and his ability?

That he is respected enough by good portal mobile talent to come to UT and play while less experienced guys continue to develop.

What else could it mean? CJH has to be buying off on ALL roster management moves. Love to see some rotations during blowouts.

Yea, the 2021 class was pretty much a bust with the Pruitt cloud hanging and a new coaching staff trying to compress three years of recruiting into two weeks. Will Parker was a 3 star project OL recruited by Pruitt’s staff who later transferred to UAB but never made the two deep there. But Huepel and Elarbee did bring in JUCO OL Jeremiah Crawford whom they had been recruiting while at UCF. He started 13 games at UT and played in 30 games Total over three seasons and is now with the Carolina Panthers. So he’s the first Elarbee OL recruit to start.
The top OL recruit in the 2022 class 4 Star Addison Nichols who as a redshirt freshman in 2023 played in 12 games. But he transferred to Arkansas after the 2023 season (started for them) and transferred to SMU after the 2024 season. I hated losing him but he played the NIL/portal game to his advantage - sort of the nature of today’s game. We signed 4 other 3 star OL in the 2022 class - two hit the portal and two are still listed on the rooster (Brian Grant and Masai Reddick). Not sure if those guys will be more than depth and of course they might portal out. Huepel/Elarbee did pick up Gerald Mincy from the portal as part of the 2022 class. He started a few games and played in the two deep but decided to portal out to Kentucky for the 2024 season.

So from an OL perspective, those first classes put us way behind and have forced us to go to the portal for players who are ready to play immediately. But we have a 4 star from the 2023 class (Umarov) and three four stars from the 2024 class (Satterwhite, Anderson, and Warren) who should be competing for playing time this year. Five star Sanders may come in and compete for playing time but the OL is an extremely hard place for true freshmen to play.

Given the nature of the game nowadays - NIL/portal - we’ll probably always be picking up a couple OL in the portal each year.

Just my opinion. Portal guys don’t transfer in to sit the bench. HS recruits are going to transfer out when they see starting portal guys come in. You rarely build depth using the portal. Other than injuries, OL backups get very few snaps.

Definitely - they come in because they believe they can win the starting job. If they do, some of the HS recruits will hit the portal, if they don’t, they will hit the portal again…either way you can’t really build quality depth so you’ll always be hitting the portal for giys who can step in and play. I’d like for some of the guys we signed out of HS to make the two deep this year so we can keep them…but today’s game is vastly different than just a few years back. OSU just won the NC in part by recruiting some of the best players from other schools…

Out of OSU’s 22 starters in the national championship game, 2 were transfers. The other 20 were recruited and developed in Columbus. The key to a national championship still seems to be, recruit and develop top talent while filling any misses or holes with a few impact transfers.

They definitely recruited well but the transfers were a key part of their success…good read on the 5 transfers that were most impactful.

5 transfers who have fueled Ohio State's run to national title game

OR, we better enlist a couple dozen online psychoanalysts willing to work with our on the edge of the bridge posters. Some depressing displays for sure and still some questions about the team as well.
