Sampson coming back?

Love Dylan Sampson but RB’s have a short lifespan in the NFL.

It doesn’t make sense to stay another year.
Honestly the RB position in the NFL isn't as valued as it used to be and the NFL owners colluded to force the market in that direction. We're still supposed to believe RBs have less value, like they told us when most teams were pass-happy, when it's back to where it's always really been when the teams with great rushing attacks are the ones winning games again. So you have to consider what is better for your bank account really. NIL could be more attractive to a guy in Sampson's position than playing on a rookie contract. And getting to that second contract is important, sure, but it's just one year and if the NIL is right, staying in school another year in an offense you are comfortable playing in, and possibly moving your draft stock into a higher position can be an attractive option. College sports have changed. Lots more guys are sticking around for an extra year. It's shocking sometimes when you see a 3 year guy leave for the NFL. You have to wonder about that schools NIL piggy bank.

Can’t blame him for going on the market but he’d best go NFL, even if it’s 3rd or 4th round.

He needs to strike while the iron is hot. He led the SEC in rushing and broke program records. He will be drafted at some point in the coming draft. Odds are if he comes back he won't be as productive. He just had a magical season that going to be hard to replicate. Losing Cooper is going to hurt and if he gets injured and has pedestrian stats up until that point. He goes from a sure fire draft pick to a udfa just hoping to get a camp spot. Its in his best interests to go and I would too if I were in his shoes. NIL is a one year deal, the NFL can set him up for life.

As a 3rd or 4th round pick he's probably looking at a $4.5-$6 million contract, but very little of it would be guaranteed. Rookie minimum is just under $800,000.00 per year, say he gets 1.2 mil, again not guaranteed. He gets hurt, or even nicked up and doesn't make the 55 man roster, he's making nothing or next to nothing. So as someone said he's shopping NIL deals, most likely not just with us. Hopefully we get the right of first refusal. If he got a mil and a half guaranteed NIL deal, he might stay in college. NFL is still there after his eligibility is gone and even if he doesn't make it in the NFL he's got a nice start on the real life. Its a whole new world and I don't blame any of these kids for doing what they think is best for them.

I’d almost bet the house he’s gone. But who knows

"Getting his" might come in the form of staying for a huge NIL payday
We’ll see. He has nothing left to prove in college after winning SEC POY. If the contracts are even similar he should choose the NFL, bc the faster he gets to that second contract the better.

If I were advising him, one million times out of one million GO PRO. You’ve got four college games left. Take care of the ball, win the NC and get to work on your 40 time for the combine.

Anyone wanting him to stay is not looking for the best interest of the lad long term.
It’s not mine or yours to make. All situations are different to different people. If he goes I am happy for him. If he stays I am happy too. Folks wanting him to stay have no say so in looking out for his interest to begin with. GBO

How could the SEC POY and a record breaking RB not go in the second? Some of you guys are acting like this is just another NFL RB. Do you not think he will grade high and do well there?

I'm the last guy to say I understand how the NFL draft works but Mel Kiper doesn't even have Dylan in his top 10 RB's in this years draft. No RB went in the first round last year and I think only one, maybe two went in the 2nd. He's probably a low 3rd or 4th round pick at best.

I think he should go by the second at least as well. But you never know in the nfl, players drop every year lower than expected. In many positions with NIL it is going to make a segment of 3rd to fifth rounders stay their final years instead of leaving early. Especially in spots where moving up is likely with a good year. It definitely helps when one is really leaning toward staying.

Kiper has made some major mistakes in his picks over the years. Sampson is a very good running back. Easily a top 10 running back. There won’t be 10 running backs picked in front of him. I would be shocked. But the disrespect he is getting with NIL around may just motivate him to come back. Either way I am a Sampson fan! GBO

I'm not in his head or his ear so I have no idea what he will do. But he wouldn't be the only guy in his position to return to school. You have seen this probably more often in basketball where a guy who is projected to be a second round pick, sticks around in college for another year. It's happening in football too. People who argue college football is a worse product since NIL and the portal ignore that guys are sticking around in college longer now and it's actually instilling a lot more parity into the sport. Just look at the SEC this year.
