San Francisco and San Jose are 2 of the most desirable places to live in America. Beautiful vistas, world class restaurants, excellent museums, parks, and things to do.



Yes, they're having some problems and it's affecting one of their core businesses-tourism and conventions, a $9.4 billion, 25 million visitor bonanza. Which means it will get fixed. Calm down.



Their mayor died in Dec. and the coming special election has 3 main candidates, with the biggest issue being housing and homelessness. The housing problems are because of restrictions on height in most areas. Nobody wants apartments diminishing their values and the obstruction is fierce. It's no different than in other cities with limited land like Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Honolulu.

None of this has to do with the feces and needles in the streets.

You can find pictures and videos of homeless people shooting heroin in broad daylight on the sidewalks, as well as pooping between cars or wherever else. The police want none of it, the addicts most likely have Hep C and other IV diseases in addition to being mental. But sell water without a permit and they'll call the police.

McDaughter visited Japan on her study abroad recently. Amazingly clean country. Orderly and courteous people. Her favorite place by far.

Side note - Japan has a great culture and history and I’d love to spend more time there. I only spent a day in Tokyo between flights. There’s so much I want to check out in Japan. One of my top places to visit.

They are quite closed. I almost forgot, I spent more time there, though the islanders would rather distance themselves. I was at Kadena for about a week and had gone out in Okinawa. Some old Japanese lady followed me all around her store. I thought it was humorous and just kept going in circles and she kept following me. She watched me like a hawk.

In the Philippines I was given a pass by everyone and my Filipino girlfriend kept getting checked going in and out of the stores. So weird.

Sad to see, I was stationed at the Presidio back in the day. Downtown was always full of low rent folks but there was a lot of cool things about that town. Bummer to see this.

I just read the article again and realized that this has nothing to do with money.

“This is also about a cultural shift,” he said. “We don’t want employees biking or driving into their office, staying there all day long and going home. This is about getting people out of their office, interacting with the community and adding to the vibrancy of the community.”

I honestly love visiting there. It’s an awesome city. It definitely has its share of homeless, but so does every city. You just need to know where to go and where to stay away from. I’m heading up next weekend with my wife and daughter. Staying down by the Wharf. Gonna go to Ghradelli, Golden Gate Bridge, trolley car, Giants game.

Hate to think it's as bad as some of the news reports describe.
