SAN FRANCISCO: Shoplifting SKYROCKETS , Criminals Aren't Being Arrested Anymore, Stores CLOSING

Add Asheville to the list of leftist cities being turned into a 3rd world chytholes.

North Carolina Town Defunds the Police, Department Releases a List of Crimes Cops Won't Respond To

Hence, on Wednesday, the city listed which crimes “officers will no longer respond to”:
  • Theft under $1,000 where there is no suspect information (this does not include stolen vehicles or guns)
  • Theft from a vehicle where there is no suspect information
  • Minimal damage and/or graffiti to property where there is no suspect information
  • Non-life-threatening harassing phone calls (does not include incidents that are related to domestic violence and/or stalking)
  • Fraud, scams, or identity theft
  • Simple assaults that are reported after they have occurred
  • Reports that do not require immediate police actions and/or enforcement (information only reports)
  • Funeral escorts
  • Lost/found property
  • Trespassing where the property owner does not want to press charges
I think this is a great list. LEOs shouldn't be responding to this crap. Police shouldn't be doing funeral escorts. The other items require admin time but don't improve crime or bust criminals. This will not be the reason for Asheville to eat itself as a city.

Wait so police will not respond to a stolen vehicle is you don’t have information about the people that stole it or identity theft ? What I hear are insurance companies and banks giggling over the possible uptick in pure profits and middle class people taking it in the shorts ... way to stick it to the man ! Smdh .

I think you're of the age where city life is more attractive than small town living. But I think at a certain age, you prefer that quiet suburban with a big yard or rural living.

Younger folks like yourself don't mind the hustle and bustle of "big city" living where everything is convenient and close by. I honestly think as you get older you start developing the "don't want close neighbors and would you please leave me the **** alone" attitude and prefer politely nodding at neighbors rather than inviting them over to party every weekend.
Truth.

I think vehicles were included in police response in the first bullet..

But then the very next one . I guess I’m reading it wrong ?
Theft from a vehicle?

Caller- Someone busted my window and emptied my center console/glove compartment.
Police- was there a gun in your car?
Caller- no.
Police- come down to the station to file a report if you want or need to for insurance.

That's what I'm guessing they're talking about.

We had a situation here in Virginia where our daughters new car was backed into , police were called and refused to file a report with the guy that did it standing there . Then when our insurance and his denied to pay the officer on the screen said that it was a civil matter and would not file a report . I guess I’m just Leary or what is about to happen with even broader policies.

I don’t see any uptick in insurance fraud either. Doesn’t matter the police won’t bother with it.

That just sounds like a lazy or ignorant officer. I think police reports are normally required by insurance companies before they'll do anything on vehicle collisions.

Unless there's some stipulation about it being a parking lot or private property.

We've had a few instances where our trucks were hit on private property and in most the police refused to do a report since it was on private property.

It wasn’t just the officer . I agree the insurance companies require this before they pay out . It’s a good thing people as a whole aren’t smart enough to get out of there own way .. our daughter got him and his insurance company on a three way call where he admitted to backing into her car , they then had to pay for the damages without the report . It’s policy here that if there are no injuries they don’t have to file a report .

Was just in St Louis this past weekend. Downtown area looked like a ghost town. Many of the businesses were closed. It was very eery to see.

There are state laws about accident reporting. In Knoxville, agencies will not respond to do a report on a traffic accident on private property unless there is other criminal activity (i.e. DUI), there is significant damage (i.e. drove through a store window), or there is serious injury

Is DUI a crime on private property? If I mow my grass after having a few beers are you saying if I crash into a tree the police can come into my yard and investigate me for DUI? Sounds ridiculous if this is the case.

LOL

I'd like to see you arrest someone for a DUI on their own property. Meaning they never left their property while driving drunk.
I frequently have driven my lawnmower after having a few beers, I didn't know that I was breaking the law. I'm a heathen.
