Sankey having media call at 6pm for "a significant announcement"

I’m thinking it’s about having stronger penalties/fines to schools that don’t follow protocol.

Maybe it’s allowing SEC teams to not be forced to kick off before 6 pm in September, thus saving multiple lives and heart attacks caused by playing in 100*+ heat index.

It's one of three things:

#1) The SEC Championship game won't have fans in attendance.

#2) The remainder of the SEC football season is cancelled outside of the SEC championship game.

#3) Basketball season is postponed until further notice.

I doubt it's #1. We're not lucky enough for it to be #2. And it's 2020 and basketball is the only thing to bring us joy so it's more than likely #3.
All of the above IMO.

Sankey is going to announce that, for the first time in its history, SEC Championship will feature a second game as its undercard. Tennessee and Vanderbilt, previously scheduled to meet this Saturday, will instead compete in the first game of the weekend in a "Loser Leave the Conference" matchup.

I’m guessing it’s this...View attachment 329333

Yeah, it's pretty clearly that.

If you're wondering about that TV deal:

Good - Since all SEC football games will be on the ESPN family of networks starting in 2024, they will generally (though not in all cases) declare start times for games before the season and just shift back and forth between networks rather than messing with the start times.

Bad - Starting as soon as next year, some SEC non-conference football and basketball games (I read it as games that otherwise would've been on the SEC Network alternate channel or streaming only) will start to be on ESPN+...which costs $6 a month or $50 a year.
