Santorum to Puerto Rico: Speak English if you want statehood | Reuters

"Like any other state, there has to be compliance with this and any other federal law," Santorum said. "And that is that English has to be the principal language. There are other states with more than one language such as Hawaii but to be a state of the United States, English has to be the principal language."

However, the U.S. Constitution does not designate an official language, nor is there a requirement that a territory adopt English as its primary language in order to become a state.
“I always carry my pocket constitution with me,” a confident Santorum said Tuesday.

He and Romney both keep sticking foot in month.

Romney keeps saying he will be the nominee. He needs to realize it is not over.
That turns me off to him. It's like he is telling all the voters in the remaining primaries that they have no choice. He is the nominee. He needs to be asking for their vote instead of bragging that he has the nomination sewed up.

I just don't understand the love affair with this guy. What does he really have to offer?

where is it written speaking English is a requirement?
Not sure, but say Hawaii wanted to join France. I'd guarantee that France would ask that they change their primary language to French. Just makes sense to me

probably but it would still depend on their laws. This isn't a US law it's just an opinion of his

This was not a gaffe. Not a mistake. This is pandering to the base in states coming up with low Hispanic populations.

If this guy wins the RNC nomination, they might as well not even have the election. He has zero shot at winning the general election.

You are right of course, but in my view it should be a law. Every country I've been where there were multiple ethnicities, cultures or languages, they had designated a business language and common language. Most had also recognized a list of other languages in their constitutions as a way of acknowledging them but kept 1 or at most 2 for contracts, business transactions, deeds and so forth. I think we would do well to do the same.

It's about the fact that he thinks there's a law when there isn't. That's what I find troubling and indicative of a politician not suitable to lead anyone.

Think about the children and the family vaules here.

Rick will first seek out to block gay porn, and then Volnation, not that the two are tied to together.

maybe if we just ban LG he will pass us by? Worth a shot

I'm more of a libertarian guy. I support the right of LG to state his opinion, but if someone else wants to call his opinion stupid, and through their own perspective, understanding, and knowledge come to the conclusion that he's a dumbass. I'm also fine with someone stating that as well.
