Sarkisian comment pertinent to UT football

"We're a better team today that we were a year ago, and a year ago we were a better team than a year before that," Sarkisian said. "Sometimes games go the way they go and you don't get the call or you don't get the catch or you make the one bad call as a coach. But that doesn't mean you're not a good football team or you aren't a better team than you were a year before."

This year was brutal at times, but we were a couple plays, a drive or two away from 7-5. The above may serve as a gentle reminder from a man who knows more about football than I guarantee 100% of fine Tennesseans on this board, including myself, as to the realities of W-L record vs. team improvement and competitiveness.

Washington gave him 5yrs, 4 of which were winning. All coming while he tried to build the program at a time that coincided with programmatic improvements across the Pac10 (ie, a harder schedule as the time of his tenure went on). So, considering the schedule Butch was up against this year combined with our depth...man, let's just start to fill the well a bit, and go get some elite recruits!

Ws and Ls are what coaches are judged by. Is what it is.

Oh sure, so long as everyone understands a herd of three-legged goats could have improved the situation over last year's mess.

And it is as it should be.

As for the comparison to UT's situation... it went from bad to worse on the field. You can blame on talent, you can blame on coaching, you can acknowledge it was some of both... but historic lows were set this year. This team was not better than last year in many ways and was worse than the two previous years in most ways.

As well they should be. I mean this guy is obviously not the answer. Just listen to the way he lumps coaches making a bad call in with players not making the play as a cause to losing football games. We on vn all know that when the team wins, it is entirely due to the genius of the head coach, and when the team loses, it is because the lack of talent and speed were simply too much for the genius to*overcome. A win or a loss actually being the effect of a joint effort by the players and coaches, how dare he speak such blasphemy.

Earlier me and you had this discussion and you said you did not compare this team to last years but if we are the only comparison we can have is record and statistics. This teams record is the same as last years after losing almost all of its offense production and are statistically better in many areas so I am not sure it is fair to say historically low as last year on paper was worse.

You do realize Tyler Bray, Justin Hunter, Cordarelle Patterson, Mychal Rivera etc etc weren't on the roster this year right?

Good call op. I feel that winning will be expected sooner rather than later for Butch because he is recruiting at such a high level. Sark recruited ok for the huskies but nothing like what CBJ is currently doing.

I'm going to predict that Wilcox will be the next HBC at UW. You heard it here first.

Good for them - they got out of town in a hurry when they heard bearcat spread was coming :yikes:

You're wasting your energy. SJt has his mind made up that Butch can't get it done and he has said so many negative, and quite frankly uninformed, things that all he can do is double down on the negativity. He can't even bring himself to explore the possibility of a wait and see approach. In 3 years he'll either be shouting his I told you so, or he will be changing his username.
